I randomly got this message that said “You asked for it.” in the chat. Nothing prompted it and no one said it, it just appeared twice, in yellow text. I can’t find anything on it, has anyone else ever seen it?
So it wasn’t attributed to anyone? Npc or player?
I remember those types of messages appearing with corrupted items in BfA. And those types of phrases also appeared in the Ny’alotha raid. It was N’zoth in your mind, causing you anguish and worry. I don’t know in what context it happened to you. An ítem you’re carry on your bags, maybe?

I know those boss costumes sometimes randomly say quotes the NPCs themselves do.

psure there’s a shield and a pick axe, I think, that do this that can be found on the isle of Dorn.
you just have to have them in bags or bank and still get the whispers
i don’t recall the names of them as I found them during EA and got rid of them pretty fast afterwards.

Was this in the caverns of time anniversary area?
I got a yellow text saying “Do you think I have big mom energy?” along with Alexstrasza voice.
Maybe someone was using a toy?
This happened while I was waiting in the story time area. I found it a bit weird maybe a glitch and not a toy.

Another funny thing, DBM will play the audio line from Cthun “You will die” sometimes. I can’t remember what triggers it, but you can be questing out in open world and then bam! This creepy audio will play…

Were you down by the 20th Anniversary?
I’ve seen that if a player has found an item that changes their character into a famous NPC like Velen, Jaina, Illidan, they have abilities that shout stuff in yellow text. (I’ve found the spear/toy, behind where Moira is standing.) I’ve only turned into Velen.
DBM has an option to alert you if you are taking damage and have an afk tag. It uses the C’thun “You will die” message.

As a couple of other people mentioned, if you were in the 20th anniversary area it was probably someone in the Jaina costume. If you play with sound off you may have only noticed the yellow words in chat. It is also possible you were out of range and only saw the chat words but didnt hear the voice line. Next time you are in the event area look around for weapons that are clickable and you will put on that characters “costume”.
