OCE PVE server in Cataclysm - is there any answer coming? Last ditch plea

[This is not a flounce post, just feeling really bummed because after playing since 2005, I’ve finally cancelled my subs. WoW has been something really important in my life and in the absence of any other effective channel to get some eyeballs on the problem, this is my last ditch effort to plead for some attention to be given to the OCE servers. Probably pointless, but here goes.]

Please, PLEASE, give some attention to/provide some communication on Classic OCE servers going forward.

Remulos, our only PVE realm, was in steady decline for ages. Every survey, I begged for attention to be given to the issue before our realm died. Nothing. Then suddenly/silently, free transfers to Arugal opened, and that was the final blow. We have been left in the dark to assume that our choice for Cata will be a functionally dead PVE realm or a populated (yay) PVP realm where we can’t opt out of being griefed (oof).

Retail hasn’t held my attention for years and so I only play classic. I have been lukewarm on Cata, but was going to give it a chance so that I could keep playing and be with my friends. I hate PVP but I wanted to keep playing, so I had resigned myself to the idea of playing on Arugal after all.

I logged onto SoD last Saturday. On OCE PVE, 15 people in Org on a Saturday night. On PVP, couldn’t finish quests because level 40 players were camping a quest hub and griefing low level players. PVP happened on a PVP server blah blah – but it crystallised in my mind that this would be my Cata experience too – either a dead PVE realm or a frustrating PVP realm. I can’t play on Arugal if it’s just going to frustrate me.

I tell my kids all the time - videogames should be fun, and if a game is making you sad or angry, don’t play it. I logged off and cancelled both subs.

I can’t stress enough though how much I want to keep playing. I didn’t think I would cancel my subs after almost two decades and I’m truly gutted. WoW has been much more than just a game for me. I want so badly to resub and play! But if my choices are the dead PVE realm OR the PVP realm where I’ll have my time wasted by ganking, then I’m not going to pay a monthly fee to be either bored or frustrated. There’s no point. People say “world pvp is virtually nonexistent” but it exists enough that it is frustrating when I want to just log on for 15 minutes and do a quest or two.

Could OCE realms be consolidated and use war mode or an NPC like the STV emissary in SoD so that PVE players could opt out? I don’t know what the answer is, and certainly any change is likely to upset someone, no matter what. All I know is that my PVE friends are in limbo waiting to find out if there will be a PVE option for them in Cata. Some have given up waiting for news and have quit already. We want to know one way or the other what is happening.

I even tried putting the above message into a ticket, hoping it would get flicked onto someone up the line to glance at. The response was (paraphrased): “We’re ecstatic that you’re enjoying our game!” (um – I just told you I unsubscribed and was really sad about it) “I’ve checked your account and can’t find any bugs or glitches.” (sigh) “Please fill out this form so we can investigate your problem further” – with a link to top level WoW forums :expressionless:

So, as much as I didn’t want to stick my neck out and put this out on the forums and be told bye felicia/l2pvp/just reroll US PVE… this is my last try at putting it out into the void so that someone might notice it.

Could someone please give us some kind of update on what is happening with OCE servers in Cataclysm, so that PVE players know where we will be playing (if at all)? And if there are no plans, stating that would mean we aren’t sitting in limbo waiting for an update.

I actually want to play Cataclysm again but I can’t see myself sticking around if I can’t opt out of PVP. I’m desperately hoping there is some news on the horizon so that I can resub and this doesn’t have to be the end of WoW for me after all this time.

:broken_heart:

Yeah, same as everyone. Arugal is like 30/70 in favour of Horde, I’ve leveled 4 characters to 80 and I’ve had one bad experience with WPvP where he camped my body, just one.

Having been on Arugal since day 1 of Classic you really are blowing it way out of proportion, it’s really not bad by any means.

If you cancelled your subs why are you here requesting changes, seems like you’ve already made your decision.

And it’s true WPvP is virtually nonexistent, flying mounts killed WPvP.

They’re not going to do anything, the most they’ll do is free transfers.

Why not just try it and see how it is, if you’re quitting anyway then why not just take the free transfers, see if your fears are true then if they are stop playing.

Although I like PvP and usually enjoy the moments and challenges, I have wittnessed and experienced this extreme before, just because you didnt experience it like that doesn’t mean its not how it happens.

PvE players shouldn’t be forced to go to a PvP mega realm just because no support was offered or done for the PvE realms, in the end I was also forced to go Arugal after spending several years from the start on Remulos.

As have I

Never said it doesn’t.

And I’m not saying that they should be, I’m saying that they should try it out and see for themselves rather than have a preconcieved notion that it’s going to be a PvP hellscape where you’re camped for hours at a time every day. (fyi this is hyperbole)

I’ve experienced the worst of WPvP, it once took me over an hour to get from the entrance of Dire Maul to Dire Maul North during phase 2 of Classic because the entrance was just full of Horde killing everyone they came across but that was a one time thing.

I was camped for 20 minutes by a Death Knight while I was leveling my Mage during the launch of WotLK, but that was a one time thing.

These happen so rarely, PvP where I’m camped or killed repeatedly in a zone that I can count them all on one hand and this is throughout Classic > WotLK. Yes just because it’s like this for me doesn’t mean it won’t be like that for another and the amount of times I’ve heard other people from my guild say something similar could also be counted on one hand.

I personally don’t like PvP, I don’t do arenas and I don’t really do BG’s either but maybe I’m just more tolerant of getting killed by other players in the world. When I was leveling my Druid in TBC and I died to a level 70 just flying in one shotting me then flying off I just sighed, released and ran back. When it happened again I again just sighed and ran back, I personally would’ve prefered to of rolled on Remulos but I knew that Arugal would be the more populated of the two so I went there.

What would you suggest that they do for Remulos? They’re not going to add Warmode for OCE, the most they’d do is offer free transfers which they already have and no one would be willing to go from Arugal to Remulos.

At this point I think its too late to save Rem, but they can merge the realm and retain a hard no-flag on said realm characters, doesn’t matter if PvPers cant attack them, just let them play the game.

Warmode was actually the best decision they ever made in terms of solving the issue.

What’s stopping you from playing on a populated US west server? The ping is really negligible when it comes to pve. There will be plenty of people playing during your prime time etc, it really is that simple. Oce is way too small a playerbase to support 2 servers

I wouldn’t say that, when AU finally got servers in WOD the difference was huge, performance went up.

Timezones would probably be an issue depending on what OP wants to do
