I’ve levelled a character to the mid 90s and its a miner/engineer. Although I can mine nodes, and it tells me I am increasing my Draenor mining, Draenor mining is not listed in the Mining abilities known.
Apparently there is a book that needs to drop but I’ve been collecting ore for about an hour now without any book appearing. Do I still need this or is there some other way to obtain Draenor mining?
If I am reading your post right, it looks like you have Draenor Mining. Are you getting Draenor Mining skill points when you mine a Draenor ore node?
By the way, the Draenor Mining skill is at the very bottem of the Mining tab. It just has a bar next to it that fills as you get skill points.
A scroll should drop fairly quickly when mining ore in Draenor, you might want to check your bags. Upon reading the scroll, you should start being able to get skill-ups when mining in Draenor. Worked for my DH post-expansion pre-patch.
Alternatively, visit Stormshield (?). You should be able to find a vendor who will sell you the scroll for 100g.
Actually since you don’t smelt and there are no ranks in WoD it doesn’t show up in your book even though you do have mining. Same with WoD herbalism if I do believe.
They should still show up in your book as a bar to show your progress, although they will not “pop open” if there are no recipes, and for some reason they will be listed at the bottom of the window below the tiers that do have recipes, even though that may cause them to be listed out of order.
If the bar is not showing there is an issue. They turned off garrison mining and herbing from giving skill ups so they have touched the code recently; they may have broken something in the process.
The fact that you are getting skill up notifications is a good sign, you must have the skill and are getting the skill ups you earned, it is just something interface related.

I have just recently returned to WoW, and I’m still encountering this issue
1: I’ve been mining Draenor for the long enough that I have all my buildings ar level 2 and never received the drop to initiate level 1 Draenor mining, subsequently then missing the xp bar increasing as I mine.
2: since leveling up Garrison to level 2 and opening mine the NPC I keep reading that apparently sell the Peon’s Pickaxe doesn’t have anything for sale but is taking my work orders.
Anyone else know if a 3rd option?
