Obsession with pre raid BiS?

Firstly, I have zero experience comes to raiding. I’ve seen people doing crazy tons of runs just to get items like Blackstone ring, Hand of Justice and etc.

So my question is - are BiS items extremely important to have for raiding? Can I just go raid without them (or most of them)? I don’t have much playtime and I don’t like the idea doing multiple runs just to get one particular pre raid item.

Edit:
Thanks for the feedback and I’ve never expect such overwhelming responses.

I forget to clarify that I already have a few pre raid BiS gears and did multiple Dungeon runs for them. Like some posters said, I agree it is indeed selfish for one to turn up with level 40 gears and get carried hard. I always try to upgrade my gears but It just frustrating that some items just won’t drop at all due to ill luck. I also have to complete with other casters, and sometimes even the healer.

I have real life commitments and I’m not free like some no-lifers who are capable of running a dungeon 300 times for a particular pre raid item.

Yes you can but the game is boring without goals in mind this is why people enjoy min maxing

I mean no it’s not as important as people make it. The content is pretty stagnant. We’ve been doing it for years so the skill level has risen above a point where gear isn’t as imperative, at least for Mc. However you should definitely be trying to get your pre raid best in slot. Damage numbers make you look more attractive to end game raiding guilds. If you got a good guild already they probably won’t care to much if they’ve already got a group of good players running Mc.

Not extremely important but since dungeons and raids are really the only endgame currently, if you are interested in being your best self, you would strive to get some pre raid bis items.

As you are a warlock I wouldn’t be too concerned. Get your hit gear and youll get full Mc epics without competition.

It depends on the guild. Some are extremely strict. Others couldn’t care less if they are already able to do all the content. If you can already farm all current content, there’s little reason to keep farming irrelevant items you’re just going to replace whenever the better purples drop.

I’m a big fan of Pre BiS or “close enough”

I’m not running Scholo 30+ times for chest armor. Deal with it. I’ll find the best I can get that’s realistic to obtain.

Scholo grind for Gandling loot is incredibly annoying. Witch blade shouldn’t be that elusive!

Can you, yes. Should you, no.

Fortunately there aren’t as many Warlocks as mages, but there are certainly far more in Classic than in Vanilla.

But as long as you’ve run enough dungeons to be in mostly dungeon blues you should be fine.

So to answer your question, yes you absolutely can clear current Phase 1 raids in greens.

That said, personally, unless you’re running with pugs, I feel it’s pretty rude to the rest of the team to show up on raid day with absolutely nothing and expect equal shot at epics.

Like I don’t need everyone in raids to be kitted out to the teeth, but you should really put in some bare minimum of effort to show your teammates—hey, I respect your time as well, I don’t intend to get carried.

No. You do not need your “pre-BIS” to complete the current tier of end-game raid content.

So, if you want to farm the same instance 100’s of times in order to get your ‘pre-BIS’ then go right ahead. But it is not required and you will do just fine with something that isn’t ‘pre-BIS.’

And honestly, I am a little tired of all the ‘pre-BIS’ and ‘BIS’ dogma going around… I honestly don’t give a crap and I roll my eyes every time someone parrots this garbage. OK, so some website is telling you that some item is your BIS and you uncritically take that as gospel and think that you absolutely must have this or your gaming experience will be somehow diminished. That’s just BS.

If you’re not running to get your Pre raid BiS what are you doing then? Just waiting for the guild to carry you and get gear?

I understand you don’t need hardly any gear, but it’s also not best practice to only wait to gear yourself during raid when the top performers are probably people that farmed some pre BiS.

Maybe don’t worry about getting all the best pieces, but it would benefit you to gear yourself to the best of your abilities.

Thank you.

No way I’m farming for some crappy green “of shadow power” just so I can get 4 more shadow dmg at the expense of losing a ton of stats.

These lists are for theoretical best DPS in a tank-n-spank, but I spend 99% of my playtime doing things other than that.

No.

And yes.

People do it because they are setting a goal for themselves. I don’t agree with their goal, but I do think that setting their own goals for themselves is important for having fun.

It’s not bs though. Those sites you mention did the work to let you know what items are best for your class. Whether you choose to farm them or not is up to you. I mean really though, end game, what are you really doing if your not doing dungeons? Especially without battlegrounds introduced yet. We raid 2 days a week. The rest of the time I’m actively doing something to better my character. You absolutely “should” be farming your best in slot or at least showing others your committed to making your character better. Not like there’s much else to do right now anyways lol.

Raiding is doable without pre-raid BiS.

The reason why we encourage our players to do it is to get out of the raid logging mentality and form bonds with their fellow raiders.

There is nothing else to do at 60 besides chasing gear.
