No tldr.
Dunno where else to turn. Been researching for almost a year trying to solve this. Just hoping some wizard here can help me out.
I currently have a Kraken Z63 AIO with a NZXT N7 Z790 mobo. I use the NZXT cam software to run the RGB on the fans and the image on the pump. My issue is that the software does not interface well with the motherboard. As in, it detects it but says that it cannot communicate. I can force the system to retry and it will often pair. But it’s had a weird effect on my fans. All of my fans are controlled by my mobo as if they were case fans. I’ve reseated and tried different ports and this persists. Thus when the software can no longer communicate with the mobo the fans cannot be controlled. This has no negative audio or thermal effects. The fans spin up when they need to, keep the cpu cool, dont run high when light load, all that. I maintain full control of the pump and image. RGB on the fans also stay at whatever I set them to last, even after losing communication.
I’ve been looking for almost a year for an answer. NZXT customers say it’s an issue with the software that needs to be patched. CS says to update everything. Which I do when prompted but also am diligent about. No solution. it doesn’t have a negative effect on my PC overall but it’s unnerving knowing that there’s a disconnect somewhere. Articles for issues like this go back to like, 2019. Just as a last ditch effort, is there anyone dealing with this currently? Anyone who used to and found a fix? Probably a shot in the dark. But I 100% have no idea where else to go.
Quick google search led me here

The short of it is,
Open Task Manager ( Ctrl + shift + esc)
Find NZXT Cam + kill it
open up device manager (search for it when via windows search )
Disable/Enable the internal usb connector (it may or may not show errors)
Relaunch Cam
see if this works for you.

Thank you for the response and laying out those steps. I do remember coming accross and trying what was in that thread. What I experienced then was that it caused the software to function, but only up until an update restart. Though… I have updated further since then, and so has the NZXT software itself. I tried the steps as listed and refered to the thread and it is currently functioning, even when minimized or closed/reopened. Gonna do some thermal again while it seems to be working and then shut it all down and see what happens when it’s back up.
Do you mean when windows pushes an update (usually forces a restart) or just a general restart?
Based on that solution it sounds like windows and the usb connector has trouble talking to each other be it windows broke something or its not playing nicely with the current drivers with the motherboard.
You might have to go and update your motherboards chipset drivers and that may resolve the communication issue between the motherboard and windows. Key word being may

Yup, when it pushes an update, I’m 99% sure. I remember waking it up one morning and it asked me to do account stuff that I’ve put off which it normally does after an update. After getting in I had the issue once more. Thank you for the recommendation on the chipset drivers. I’ve only recently broken into PC gaming and a lot goes over my head so that’s not a connection I would have made. I’ll give it a shot, tyty.
