I hate how we dealt with an old god breaking free in a single patch, In the raid, we should have failed with the player characters death leading into shadowlands looking for a way to return and save Azeroth before it’s too late.
Why is it so bad we killed N’zoth exactly?
We’ve killed lords, kings, and gods.
This isn’t even the first Old God we’ve killed. The last ones we killed were also just beat with sticks, not an amulet made out of a newborn titan.
No. You’re wrong.
He should have won.
I’m not hearing a why.
Embrace the tentacle.
Love the tentacle.
N’zoth was the only Old God that broke free and wasn’t imprisoned.
That’s why.
To make an engaging story instead of “oh that thing is free, err kill it with fire!”
Something’s not quite right with that ending.
N’Zoth should have had his own Xpac.
Sounds like the problem is how we killed him. Not that we did kill him.
This was the first time where the actual old god was broken free at full power. The other cases had them still imprisoned or in a weakened state. The Titans at full power had to work together just to Imprison them.
N’Zoth is known as the most cunning old god making up for his weak raw power, him breaking out meant he had no restraints on his power.
Insert the tentacle?
Yeah sure sure, but the alternative option presented by OP would’ve allowed for other ideas to happen better.
Do keep in mind that Old Gods are just blebs of the vastly more terrifying cosmic horrors. One of which was able to tear apart a whole world just by manifesting for a short time. They’re more expac bait than Tentacles.
Besides. Noone’s ever really gone. They said it at Blizzcon and they can come back easily.
Yeah because Blizzard only writes by retconning.
The writers in a few expansions won’t care what they did in BFA.
Well, I could see if they does something like he actually corrupted us somehow. And that was his plan. Lorewise, we did get brain surgery from, right?
Kinda still his plan all along thing, though.
Old Gods are not of our reality. They are like an interface between the Void Lords and our reality. They are not “just hit it with a big hammer and it dies” kind of big bad. Even the Titans had trouble with these things.
I love the OP’s idea! It gives the Old God the Lore respect it deserves and we still get to destroy it!
Retcons are a healthy part of any franchise media. Just look at Warhammer. People write themselves into corners too often. Besides, reminder what the Kitab-al-Azif states: "That which is not dead may eternal lie and with strange aeons even death may die.
Even death may die, funny how the next expact is us going and beating the evil Jailer. Perhaps there’s something locked in there that shouldn’t be let out.
The Pantheon might have had to work together at full power but Azeroth is insanely powerful herself, so much that it caused Sargeras to go off the deep end at the possibilities of her falling under the Old God influence.
N’zoth did almost win but was vaporized by the failsafe method meant to wipe out all living things on Azeroth itself, focused through part of Azeroth’s power.
I have no disbelief that we would have lost, if not for the small margin of Azeroth’s boundless potential.
Don’t get me wrong, BFA’s writing is trash. But killing N’zoth was bound to happen.
