NYC disconnects (spectrum)

Every 2-3 minutes I disconnect. Started in early July. Went away. Now it’s back, can’t figure out why. No other issues with streams or work, it’s only WoW and I get error code 51900319. I have Spectrum and live in New York City. Any others experiencing this or know what to do?

Any help is monumentally appreciated.

You probably want to run a WinMTR to see where the problem may be so you can post the results here to see if anyone can help.

Just ran one, here’s what came back. I played for 5 mins, disconnected. Relogged, played 5 more, exited game. Collected data. No idea what this means. Blizz points the finger at Spectrum, Spectrum tells me to restart router. Both useless.

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP - Fully Managed Hosting & Cloud Provider

Hey Destructiive,

The WinMTR doesn’t look bad

We can see that on the last hop there’s no packet loss and the latency is low, so it’s possible whatever issue is causing the disconnect isn’t one that shows up in connection tests.

Do you own your own modem or is it one that you got from Spectrum? If its one that you purchased and own you might want to see if there’s a firmware update available for it from the manufacturer.

It’s also possible the disconnect is happening somewhere between your modem and the Blizzard network. You could try using an alternate connection such as a mobile data hotspot or a VPN to test and see if the game connection is more stable.

I have the same issues. I wish I could stay in as long as you. I last less than 30 seconds in game. Spectrum blames it on Blizzard. The common link is Spectrum. LOTS of people here in Florida have the same issues and they all have Spectrum. Can you connect using a hotspot off go your phone? Right now, that’s the only way I can connect.

I’m in Florida on Spectrum, but no issues. I recommend asking for a firmware upgrade on the modem, which resolved the issues we saw in the forum a few weeks ago.

Hey,

I have this exact same issue. Happened a month or two ago as well and eventually resolved on its own. I couldn’t ever get any real solution.

Now its happening again. Currently on hold with spectrum…

I’m in Texas if that makes any difference?

Have had this issue since early July as well, Spectrum. Today, I am DCing from WoW only roughly every ~5minutes. Have had this happen 4 times in a row so far…logged in and awaiting a 5th.

It’s what Spectrum provided. I might ask them to update it remotely. Very sad I can’t seem to find a solution.

That’s the only way they update firmware, unless they are replacing with a new unit. They should be able to help.

All, I downloaded Proton VPN for free and that has fixed the issue, so it seems for now. IDK what Spectrum’s issue is, but the VPN fixed it. Was so happy to fix this for free. If any others have this problem, highly encourage you to download Proton and see if that works for you. Blizzard, pls take note of this solution to advise others with this issue.

VPNs, while usable, are not a supported method to connect to the game. They are good to test and use occasionally, and the Blizzard posters here tell people to test with them quite regularly. If a VPN works, then you know it is an issue with your ISP rather than on Blizzard’s end. Have you contacted Spectrum and asked them to do a firmware update on your modem or to replace it with a newer model?
