Nintendo Switch Pro coming soon maybe?
Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Nintendo went back to AMD because RDNA2.
I really don’t like Nintendo at all. My kids have a Switch and they love playing it, but their store, account system, and general ecosystem is terrible.
Their hardware is always pitiful, and while they do some good things with what they have, I believe their insistence on weak mobile stuff is dragging down everyone due to cross-platform development.
I wish Nintendo would do a proper console instead.
Proper as in like the Wii U/GameCube era?

Well the Wii U sales bombed hard when they released it, mainly because people thought “why do I need a Wii U when I have a Wii?” And when people realized Wii U discs weren’t compatible they just didn’t bother. The name itself threw off a bunch of people.
When they were designing the switch They also wanted to please the handheld gamers too because the Nintendo 3ds was a success mainly due to it being something you can take on the go. So they combined two things into one, please the handheld people and satisfy the ones who want to sit down on a chair and game.
I don’t even think they even have interesting games on the 3ds anymore because the Switch is that good, don’t think any game is being made on the 3ds anymore, it just silently died on its own
The only thing Nintendo did right was the online services, costs $20 a year to play online games
While others like Xbox gold costs $60 a year
Their billing system is terrible, though. The whole user end experience for it just feels painful to use.
Why do I need to enter in a code physically after I’ve already paid for the code on my account? It’s dumber than dirt.
It’s about time anyway, the Tegra used in the Switch is handily outperformed by practically everything but maybe bottom-barrel $50 Walmart smartphones these days.
Curious to see what the Switch Pro or whatever the next device in the series is. The Wii and Wii U are essentially a GameCube XL and GameCube XXL in terms of hardware, to the point that GC compat mode for both just switched off cores and reduced CPU clock speed to become a GameCube. I expect them to do the same with the Switch.
It also bugs me how much game development time gets wasted on their systems due to their insistence on crap hardware.
It seems that developers either end up delaying a game release across the board in order to “optimize” for this console, or just axe features.
There are definitely Switch ports that are something of an afterthought though. I don’t own a Switch myself, but my roommate does and a couple of the games I’ve seen them playing on it very obviously bottomed out the settings sliders and called it a day with no further optimization. They were super rough looking even compared to the PS4 versions of the same games.
It’s hard though - why would a game company consider the Switch to be an acceptable console for a cross-platform game that isn’t a low-resource indie game?
I guess this comes across as salty elitism, which it in fact may simply be, but with the high cost of Nintendo games and accessories, I can’t help but view it all with a resentful “Apple” vibe.
At least Apple, while a bit pricey and exclusive with a lot of their ecosystem quirks, performs. Nintendo does not.
Like I’m legit mad at how expensive those dumb Switch Joycons cost vs. how fragile they are…especially in the hands of their target demographic, kids.
I’ve replaced Joycon sticks three times already, meanwhile the Xbox1 and PS4 controllers have gone through hell and back from the same kids and are fine.
Yeah I think the main reason to buy Nintendo consoles is for Nintendo exclusives, avoiding ports at all costs. The only way I’d own one is as a companion to either of the other two “big guns” consoles or a gaming PC.
Unfortunately the PS5 DualSense controller and new Xbox whatchacallit controllers use the same joysticks as the Joycons. DS4s are good stuff though.
Really? Lame. I’ve been using Xbox 360/One controllers on my PC, and they’re great.
Actually between all of them, the old Xbox 360 is my favorite contour to my hands.
Even though they may have the same switches, perhaps the PS4/Xbox controllers housing is just constructed better?
Haven’t used Xbox controllers much but they do look comfortable. I have one of the glossy black plastic One models that came with an Oculus Rift and it fits in my hands nicely, but damn do I hate glossy plastic lol.
DualShock 4 is basically perfect for me but their batteries suck. There are well documented large battery mods though so that’s something that can be fixed in a free evening or two.
One can hope, only time will tell. Wasn’t the problem with the joycons little plastic shavings clogging the stick up?
No idea.
My troubles were:
- X axis completely broken
- Sticky X axis
- Totally unresponsive
Give them the switch pro controller
You’re wasting money on joycons, I too agree the joycons are kinda crap
But this controller you can probably throw it at a wall multiple times and you’ll still be able to have it functional
They (I) have that for BotW, Fire Emblem, etc.
But some games only work on Joycons. Specifically the ones that require motion. The ones that more likely contribute to damage.
Oh they play motion active games, ok yeah you’re stuck with joycons then
Feels a bit deliberate, knowing kids will be the biggest players.
$70 a kit - they want those parents’ monies
It’s even worse when you have a limited edition console, like this one I own

They don’t make them available to replace easily, you’ll have to resort to eBay and buy it off of someone else which goes for $120-$150
So I made sure I bought different set of joycons for my niece when she comes over because I’m not letting her use the collective ones lol
