I was very hesitant to stop using Elvui for this new native UI, but that’s what I did, and so far I’m sticking with it.
In its current state, it needs workarouds, either via other small addons or simply knowing which parts of the screen are mostly out-of-touch because Blizzard decided to stick unmovable elements there.
For instance, I found a small addon for moving all the achievement notification boxes. I hated them appearing over my hotbars as I was trying to play the game. I didn’t want to lower my hotbars to the very bottom of the screen.
I am getting used to the mini menu bar and bag buttons being stuck where they are. My preference would be to move them. Maybe for me this is more an issue of another part of the screen Blizzard has claimed for itself and therefore has blocked from my own use.
There was an update, a patch, or else I did something that changed the resolution on my screen, and this caused every movable element to end up in the wrong place. Everything was squished a little toward the center of the screen, from the sides inward and from the bottom upward. This was annoying because I’d spent so much time working with the UI (and around the UI) to get things how I wanted them. I think it’s weird how all the elements are so dependent on the screen resolution that is chosen and don’t automatically adjust to placement when resolution is changed.
I think it’s great for people who stuck to the default UI. They have more visible cast bars and can at least move crucial elements around (and resize them as needed). For everyone else, there’s still addons. So there’s really not much to get infuriating about.
I set it up like how I had my interface in DAoC. It’s nice. I played with stock UI no addons for most of Shadowlands and I had no problem moving over to a very different custom profile in the new UI.
We still can’t filter friendly buffs on the Personal Resource Display.
Sorting Raid Groups by Seperate Groups (Vertical) lists all of the groups in one row. In the old UI, they listed in two rows, covering less of the center of your screen.
I was able to cut down quite a few addons with the change, still rolm for improvements but te new UI I’ve been using since Beta and works like a dream now.
I adopted the new UI enthusiastically after so many years handcuffed to ElvUI as my easy-peasy comprehensive UI solution.
After a few weeks, I’m kinda wondering if I made the wrong choice. The Lua errors, taint errors (“Derp this AddOn that has nothing to do with UI elements is messing with stuff, NO MORE BUTTONS FOR YOU UNTIL YOU /RELOAD”) and now the new bug where your buttons just grey out and don’t come back until you swap talents are a real detriment to the whole experience.
I still hate it and want the old UI back. Stuff like locked bags, map, dungeon finder eye location, etc aside i just find it really ugly. I miss having my bars all connected, could only get the gryphons to appear over one bar, and dont love the new designs. The character frames just look wrong too, it doesnt feel like wow to me
The complaints I heard only suggest it is not worth the switch. People saying they can’t save profiles, can’t import/export script to keep their layouts, having to reset layouts on each toon etc.
Generally they couldn’t pay me to use their “upgrade.”
I like it, but I would love to be able to adjust the sizes of a few more aspects of my UI, like that bag and menu bar in the bottom right corner. I would love to make that bigger.
