THE QUESTION: My current monitor is a 32" Vizio TV, and was just a left-over when we upgraded one from the living room. As one can see, it has a +5 viewable surface. The 27" one from NewEgg however, has less viewable and costs more than what I would expect from some other vendors.

WHAT I WANT: Is at least 3" more viewable surface than the Vizio.

THE DUMB QUESTION: Is there really that much more of a diff in the hardware of the ACER to account for what is sure to be more in the price?

gratz on the new rig

not sure what question you are asking, why the Acer is more expensive than the Vizio TV? I don’t know the specs of the Vizio but just by the timeline you described, the Acer has a much better panel with more features and better specs. The price of the Acer seems reasonable enough for its specs although I don’t know much about that particular monitor.
Also how far will you be sitting from the monitor? The lack of screen space may not be a big deal especially with higher resolution.

We don’t really know because we don’t know what specs the vizio has. As a general rule though monitors are preferable for TV’s because:

Panel Type: Most TV’s are VA and will have terrible smearing
Input lag: The response response rate is typically pretty bad
Refresh rate: Most TV’s won’t do higher than 60hz
VRR: Most TV’s don’t have freesync or gsync compatibility.

Also monitors in general tend to be certain sizes for better image clarity due to their pixel per inch. Most tend to be 23’s 1080p, 27’s 1440p, 32 4k, etc. Then there’s just ease of use for turning it on and such.

There are exceptions to almost everything I mentioned with high end TV’s such as OLED’s that can do 4k, 144hz, freesync, good latency etc.

Going from a 32 to a 27 doesn’t mean you’ll see less. They’re both 16:9 aspect ratio and will show the same amount, the 32 will just be bigger. There are also 32 monitors available but they’ll cost more than the 27 you listed.

I’d still use the monitor most likely for the reasons I listed above. I hope this helps you.

coming from a guy that runs a 34 inch 1080p ultrawide… get an ultrawide lol

i would stick with the vizio because i’m assuming that your 4060 only has 8 gb of ram. well… i’m also assuming that the vizio is FHD (1080p). at 1440p (2k) you probably has to knock down a few graphic settings down to get a good frame rate, or you can max out the graphics on a 1080p and still get good frame rate.

Yeah, ultrawides are the way to go, especially for WoW. You get so much more screen space.

I like the Alienware one. It’s expensive tho.

oh yeh… mine’s an LG I bought a couple years back. still works for me tho

Instead of going Ultra wide I just want bigger and I’m quite happy I did.

Im on a 42" LG OLED at 4k. World of Warcraft is absolutely beautiful on it. With that said OLED will ruin your life because I don’t think I can ever go back to IPS or VA now

It really is the future of gaming because it’s response time is fantastic. It just needs to come down in price because OLED is pretty expensive at the moment
