Now that Classic is more popular than BfA

Now what? Many of you stated the opposite would happen, or that there’d be very little interest in Classic.

Now that classic is turning out to be an absolute behemoth in terms of interest from the gaming community, what’s that say about the current iteration of the game and its path forward?

It’s been a week. It’s not more popular.

WoD had more players than Classic week 1.

How’d that pan out?

How many are going to stick to it? Once the streamers that don’t normally stream WoW move on to the next new game how many players are going to quit Classic now that their idols have moved on? There is a reason Blizzard has been hesitant to add more servers, they don’t know if the number of people playing is going to be the same a few months down the line.

This is like WoW’s version of flat earth. Rofl.

This isn’t to talk smack about people who enjoy Classic more than BFA, but given the nature of the game, I think interest will wane over time. People will want more content once they’ve seen it all. I don’t think Classic will become a case like OSRS since there are people who really want Classic to remain unchanged.

They’ll likely come back to the game unless they find a community to stick to in Classic. However, I do see Blizzard taking a page out of EQ’s book and making ‘Progression’ servers, like slowly releasing other iterations of the game over time. I’d play it.

I don’t think there is any way blizzard will ever release the numbers to say one way or the other…

I suspect Classic is more popular now but the real test always was if that will hold true in a year.

Why do some of you want to ruin a good thing? Just go enjoy Classic. Damn.

I came back for Classic, played until level 28 - it was a great trip down memory lane. I also discovered they fixed a lot if the issues I had with BFA on release.

Now I’m playing Retail.

There seems to be this misguided belief that Classic’s success is a lance through the heart of Retail players when, in reality, it’s a big win for World of Warcraft in general… and they’ve needed a big win for a very long time.

I look forward to continuing to dabble with Classic, seeing what they have in store for Retail and what effect, if any, Classic’s success has on its direction.

More popular on twitch for certain. Most folks in my guild and on my friends list have classic toons, but spend the majority of their time in retail though.

For all the warts in the lottery gearing weekly loot chests, mindless farming essences, and stupid unbalanced azerite traits. I’m still enjoying the crap out of playing BfA right now. Is it perfect? No. But is it still fun to log in and compete in arenas, raid, run m+ keys, or level / gear alts, complete old achievements, hunt and kill rares for drops… I think so.

That does not mean classic is better than BFA in any way.

Um, congrats? Not sure what you are expecting. Maybe a little clap?

There you go. Enjoy your game.

OSRS community wanted OSRS to stay the same but eventually that changed when people quit and got bored of the content. Same thing will happen with WoW

I’m 30. I started playing on day one of Vanilla, when I was in high school.

I have little to no interest in playing Classic.

You think so? I have to admit that I’m curious as to what direction Blizzard would go if they decided to do that.
