You’re really going to say Retail holds your hand and then complain raid bosses have more than 2 mechanics?
no…
Classic bores me. It bored me back in the day, when I was in my late 20s and unemployed so I had the time to actually play. And it bores me still. I much prefer the quicker pace of retail even though it’s a lot more punishing and I’m not as quick with my reactions like I was. There’s better defined goal posts and the quality of life is way better. I just think it’s in a much better place than where it used to be though I agree the story is way more convoluted now.
Classic players typically came from Everquest which were all tank & spanks. They had some mechanics, but not many. So mechanics really didnt start until MC and didnt have many (avoid the fire, dont blow others up and avoid aoe effects when you could). Dugeons definitely had very few if any mechanics.
Now it seems every mechanic is time so youre normal casts are interrupted.
I kinda covered this here.
Nah the addons do in fact track exactly when mechanics will happen, where and who they will cast on in advance, and tell players what to do beforehand. There’s a reason ffxiv banned addon use- its because just like WoW their fights are completely scripted.
Nah, the guy i quoted specifically said “addons that do the mechanic for them” thats not how this game is.
You can debate the appropriateness of the level of addon integration, thats fine, but that specific take is pure fiction.
The only time this is even remotely close to true is in examples where WA organizes groups or pairs, like on H razageth, or on terros during early pulls when people split spikes.
There’s currently no addons outside of rotation helpers that does this thing, and even those are merely suggestions. So no, all an addon such as DBM is provide the same information that’s available to everyone in a more legible fashion.
Every single addon to date that has outright told or shown players what to do have had the utilities they relied on broken. This is just an old tired talking point by folks who want to try to ban all addons.
Yes. That they provided all of the necessary UI elements ahead of time and have stated that they don’t persecute people as long as people don’t use third-party apps excessively or talk about them in-game.
WoW addons, due to how they are built, aren’t classified as third-party. In FF14 they are.
WoW was built to have addons and they operate in-game via the game itself. Third-party software in terms of WoW is stuff that exists outside of the game affecting things in-game.
You are trying to compare apples to oranges.
Brother I’m gonna be honest with you, if you can’t see the vibrant swirlies and differentiate from donut swirlies and actual swirlies, you might wanna get your eyes or monitor checked.
Id love to see these guys explain to me how the addons “do the mechanic for me” when avanoxx uses gossamer burst.
“Interrupt now.” " Get knocked up." " Move to target." " Use CC now." “Phase change” “Taunt now.” " Use defensive." " Incoming AoE."
Easy? from the outside yes it looks like cake, pulling a pack at high level M+ key isn’t as easy as those people think its… otherwise, you would see everyone here with 3k IO score… there is a reason why only few people have it because you need CD/interrupts/pulls… so many things are going on within pulling 1 pack of 5 adds…
Whie Classic+ mostly tank and spank lol…
You sure about that? Hmm
Two things:
- None of those things play the game for you.
All of these are sound queues. Replace them with animal noises each one representing one of those sentences and you have the same list. Except you have “Barking” and “Meowing” as part of your list.
An instruction to do something isn’t just a sound queue informing you, and as someone who have been using these addons for years… the most useful sound alert you can get is a short ‘ping’ indicating that ‘a’ mechanic is happening and that’s just as a reminder. But sure, let’s play along with what you said here:
- Interrupt what and how?
- Move to what target and how?
- I have never heard this but sure, I will use my Shadowfury on… what? Where? And if the alert is happening that means the thing has already been cast, so on what am I casting a CC too late?
- Wasn’t this supposed to be about instructions rather than information about mechanics?
- “Taunt now” - … the absolute WORST and most inaccurate out of ALL of these ones! You’ll literally kill a raid in any meaningful difficulty of content if you taunt whenever those things tell you to taunt.
- Sure! Which defensive? How big is the damage? What am I using the defensive for? If I’m a healer and we all use our defensives, what happens then? We all pop 'em and die next time the raid need a defensive?
- … yes, incoming AoE the most useful of alerts. Remind me again, these were supposed to be instructions as to what to do next, right? This is just an alert stating what’s coming, not what to do about it. Is it an AoE you can dodge, is it an AoE you are supposed to get out of, is it an AoE to use a defensive for, is it an AoE for the healers to deal with primarily, what kind of AoE are we talking about?
Sorry but as far as instructions as to what to do, these ones doesn’t do that except for people playing the game on autopilot and at such a level where none of these things mattered to begin with. So, yeah… sorry, your narrative doesn’t hold water.
But I will say one more thing…
- If this is an instruction, you are on the ENTIRELY wrong website on the internet my good man!
I think this whole thread is pointless, there is no M+ in classic, it would make more sense if you compare TWW heroic dungeon with Classic heroic dungeons, and classic heroic def has higher difficulty. As for raids, amount of movements required are very similar depending on encounter.
Half of those are queen DBM instructions and they are all perfect for tanks.
I was surprised at their choice of wording for green airtime too.
Guess we found the person who hasn’t done queen yet. 4 of those are phase 1 queen to be exact.
Youre not the average player then?

It’s a skill issue. Go to classic if you want to be bored doing the same content from ages ago or come to retail where an actual challenge exists.
Sounds like standard retail LFR lol
