This is a thread for Classic+ ideas we have that people typically/never bring up that we think would improve the Classic+ product/experience when it theoretically comes.
I thought of mine tonight as I quested through Desolace, grinding on centaurs and cutting off their ears. Historically, I’ve disliked the zone because of its look and since there’s not much to do there aside from Maraudan, but tonight I was having fun with the centaurs. For those that don’t know, there are two tribes, the Magram and Gelkis, that live near each other and are sworn enemies. You start off neutral with both and as you kill one tribe, you lose rep with it and gain rep with their enemy tribe. At friendly, you get to turn in a quest for some bonus experience.
As it stands, that’s it. The Magram and Gelkis decision was the first “sub-factions” that paved the way for Scryers/Aldor and later Covenants, but the first iteration was very bare bones. There are a few varied quests where you kill centaurs from the opposing faction or bring them certain items, but ultimately the quests give an above-average green and that’s it. People have suggested fleshing out their quests and rewards, and that’s fine albeit too common a suggestion for this thread.
My idea came from when I returned to the Magram camp after murdering and mutilating Gelkis scum. I was enraged to see a mage AoE farming my allies. It made me momentarily regret rolling on a PvE server so I couldn’t put a stop to it. That gave me another idea, namely that I wouldn’t be able to stop a member of the Horde from senselessly slaying my newfound friends.
So that got me to thinking: Magram and Gelkis territory are PvP areas similar to Gurubashi arena, where in designated areas, centaur clan alignment either trumps or stacks with factions. I can’t decide if it would be better that Magram-aligned Alliance and Horde players couldn’t target each other in addition to being hostile to their Gelkis-aligned counterparts, or if same-clan Allies and Hordies could kill each other as well as their Gelkis-aligned counterparts.
There should also be a zone-wide buff to encourage killing the opposite clan and defending yours. Let’s say that each clan has 100 elite centaur mobs that respawn slowly. The number of living centaurs would be spawn on the HUD like Plaguelands towers, etc. and show X/100 of each clan. For each additional living centaur over the other clan, the winning clan’s players gain 1% damage and attack speed. The first clan to bring the other’s population to 0 gets 200% damage and attack speed for 30 minutes.
This change would give some much-needed depth to a tragically underutilized asset and make for some interesting emergent PvP gameplay.
