Not making the Worgen curse hereditary was a huge mistake

If it’s any comfort, there are players who absolutely loathe vulpera and loose their minds when they see people playing one.

Witnessed a grown adult have a meltdown once on MG about it alliance side. But it was Moonguard soo. It’s known for a lot of things, being a wholesome community isn’t one of them

Edit: I’m still convinced the devs hate that they made the worgen playable and weren’t expecting people to enjoy playing one.

To be fair I have seen some really, and I mean, REALLY weird stuff from Vulpera players (like messed up illegal stuff…) Not saying all are like that, but when not only have I seen weird stuff but I have had friends who play Horde side who said they saw disturbing things from some Vulpera RPers. I get the hate because of that reason.

As a race though, I think they are fine, and people shouldn’t judge someone for playing a Vulpera because of a few bad apples. I know some people who love their lore and play their Vulpera as wandering travelers who exchange goods and what not and it’s very cool.

From personal experience, I’ve ran into far more disgusting people alliance side than I have horde side. I’ve never seen the things people accuse some vulpera players of doing.

Spend five minutes in Goldshire on MG, and you’ll see a lot nasty and borderline, if not outright illegal stuff going on. With all sorts disgusting F-Lists and the like.

I guess I just loathe people who judge vulpera players for the actions of a few bad apples. Because like I said, I know and seen a ton of disgusting individuals, of all races, alliance side

My response to all that: Nuh uh. To everything. Disagree on all counts and I won’t elaborate. Yes, that includes you not being a furry. I don’t believe that.

I mean, I vastly prefer the Kul Tirans over regular Humans, but I share that opinion with a very small minority. As @Dardillien said, most people view Kul Tirans as “just fat humans” and thus don’t want to play them.

In terms of the BEST race to roll Druid… I think Zandalari are by far the best. Really hard to top Dinomancers for me.

I’m so flabbergasted at the sheer vitriol some people have for Vulpera. Like… dude… it’s just a cartoony fox in a video game. Absolutely mind blowing sometimes.

EDIT: Ya know… It kind of reminds me of the TBC days. The amount of hate I saw getting thrown at Blood Elves for “not belonging on the Horde” was intense sometimes. Like, just straight up harassment that got people banned. All over some pixels on the screen.

When you get angry or are in danger, you transform. Classic “Id, Ego and Superego” type stuff. Symbolism and psychology, all that jazz.

Which is why I think WoW lore should adopt Teen Wolf rules for second generation Worgen. Because again, symbolism and psychology.

Were you seriously expecting to play a mindless rabid bloodthirsty monster that attacked anyone and everyone around it?

Yeah, what a poopoopeepeehead. Only Horde get to do that.

We the player? No. Because this is an MMO where they have to put gameplay first. They could write some lore that the potion + ritual combo gives the player character complete control of the beast within. Similarly to how Worgen Death Knights are in complete control because the Lich King’s will destroyed any feral nature they had.

However, they could write it so that your every day Gilnean/Worgen is NOT fully in control. They are bloodthirsty. They are forced to change on full moons because their rage is too much (the same as how Goldrinn is during a full moon). Blizzard could do so much to make worgen really cool in lore and show it, but they don’t. Instead the lore is like, you have full control… but the curse still sucks and needs to die out.

We were sold that worgen were savage beasts that are more than human.

What we have gotten is Blizzard basically wanting them to be Stormwind Humans with british accents that can occasionally turn into a wolf-man, but they don’t want to do that anymore so eventually the wolf-man part will die out.

That “eventually” is not going to happen in the lifetime of the game, any more than Tyrande will fulfill her wish to see Teldrassil regrown.

Maybe because I don’t RP, but I haven’t seen Vulpera do anything strange, either.

I have seen naked female Draenei doing some sort of… mating ritual… at the Incontinental Hotel… I didn’t even know what they were doing, someone in my party who was gawking at them explained to me that’s how “Draenei RP having… relations”…. I was like, “my word!”

There’s also the Naked Kaldorei dancing on mailboxes that is an actual thing.

But yeah, I’ve seen some…things on alliance side that honestly, the FBI should be checking some hard drives with the things people ally side get into. Plus my own personal experiences of the disgusting and vile things people would whisper me when I played my draenei

Thinking about it now, it does explain why I always kinda hated the alliance community on MG the last couple years

The only thing a true orc needs?
Viking helmets, Shoulder, SPIKES.
*Spikes on the spikes. *
If it doesn’t stab you when you equip it, it’s not real armor.

Did I mention spikes?

I think that was also Benjamin Sisko’s primary design philosopghy for the Defiant Class. It’s not a real warship if it doesn’t constantly threathen to blow up in your face.

Yes, because it is a playable race… that doesn’t change the fact that Blizzard’s narrative choice is that they want the worgen curse to die out, therefore they will continue to write stories where the worgen curse is in the background, or non-existent, because they want Gilneans to be just Stormwind Humans with british accents.

That is the issue. It is disheartening to feel like the race you picked is being written off as a mistake.

I dislike the way current blizzard tries to cram everything as close as possible into the stereotypical ‘male human paladin’ sort of fantasy. De-fanging the worgen is merely one of it’s many many failings…

also, the missed possibility of PUPPIES!

I’m very sure that Blizzard hasn’t thought of things on that level or that far into the future.

And despite player paranoia, they aren’t thinking in terms of malice towards any player race.

From a meta-setting perspective, this thread is a fascinating read.

I had no idea there were people out there who rolled Worgen because they wanted to be human. I mean obviously that is true of whoever is writing the race nowadays, but I was very much around for Cataclysm and the love for the Alliance finally getting a vessel for savagery was palpable.

Shame. Great thread guys, loved reading so many of your posts.

They rolled worgen becuse they wanted to be THIS specific type of Human, British with a side of Hyde.

Anyone who thought that they were signing up to be the Hammer style mindless brute, simply was not paying attention.

I just discovered this topic and wanted to give my two cents on Tess not being a worgen.

I actually think that it could be a good think if used correctly. Her not being a worgen can actually Highligth the bestial side of the race : her hesitating to become a beast.
Also, considering she’s presented as a rogue, I wish they would present her a being more calculated and subtle (in contradiction of the ferocious part of being a worgen) in hey way to govern while always favouring her people (a bit like Sylvanas could do for the forsaken).
Staying as a human could also be to appear “less dangerous” to other faction leaders if we go into the trope that worgen are a lot more bestial that showcased in the game (which could come handy in the event of her being calculated).
That being said, old age could still make her change her mind : she’s still able to contract the curse after all, but i actually think that having a rogue leader with litteral beasts to guard her can go really hard.

That could also create a subfaction of worgen that do not like having a human as a leader and force other human gilneans into the curse through blood rituals.

I do like storylines that include some opposite characteristics (here, Tess, a human and the Gilnean peoples) : it can create insteresting situations and it can make the race come back to its “darkers” begins. I’m sure a lot of you already have similar ideas as I showcased. I wish that blizzard would go back on darker storylines overall, and try to give more time to the differents races stories… But that isn’t their current plan it seems.

(Also I don’t really like the female worgen model, but that’s my tastes).
