Edit: Most people seem to be misunderstanding my post. I’m not saying LFG should be allowed, I’m saying bots may take over Trade chat and make LFG necessary just to form groups. Also, I said in the post I know there were bots back in 2004-2005 but you can’t deny they’re significantly worse today than back then.
First of all, I’m not trying to argue with Blizzard’s stance on the issue, I understand their perspective and respect it. However, there’s one big problem with spamming Trade for groups that didn’t exist in 2004 and is rampant today; gold sellers. There’s been days I’ve logged in to live and had Trade so flooded with spam I couldn’t even get a word in. If bots begin to take over Trade chat in Classic then the best way we have to form groups and trade will be ruined.
Trade chat played an integral role in forming groups and guilds in Classic and while yes there was gold sellers back then too, they weren’t nearly as out of control as they are today. Also, bots will most likely be even WORSE in classic because the increased difficulty will make those who already buy these services buy even MORE. That’s why I thought the LFG addon was such a great idea; it circumvented Trade chat so even if it did get overrun, players wouldn’t be as impacted.
Now really, truly, I hope that I’m wrong about gold sellers taking over Trade chat but if they do I hope Blizzard has a plan to address it quickly or give us an alternative way to form groups. Groups, Guilds, and Raids ran off the back of Trade chat in Vanilla and if we can’t use it to form groups it will dramatically impact how well people can play the game.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out considering how much as changed. I dont support or Support the LFG. Where its gonna level itself out is when people get their friends/groups they run with all the time. As guilds merge, and players merge together. The Chat will level it self out.
Only times I ever got into trade, Global or whatever to look for people, was to PUG with randoms. Sometimes sitting outside the dungeon and ask for people to run with was active. Got to remember, people are gonna level around the dungeon zone, finding someone in that area wont be hard.
As far as finding a Healer, Tank, thats when going to main city will be a help. DPS will be mains of most people I am assuming.
Always knew blizzard would kill the add on community, people are going to take mods to far and simple good minded mods will be swept under with the bad mods.

I’m pretty sure a lot of people are just going to form groups on discord rather than in-game chat channels.
Considering the size of the servers those channels are going to be a mess.

We made do back then with people turning global channels into 2004-2006 meme festivals, thunderfury spam, politics and anything else you could imagine. Will it be worse this time around? Eh, maybe, but I wouldn’t blame the bots. Just go take a peek at any major twitch stream chat, I imagine that’s what we will see - if it is worse this time around.
Does that mean we need an addon? Hell no, what the heck do you think guilds are for?
You can /join LookingForGroup, it will be a different number based on what other channels you’ve joined.
You can make custom global channels with that as well. Most common to create a “World” channel, but in the beta some funny guys would get control of the channel after the former owner logged off and lock it with a password.

Maybe because Dentarg and Bloodscalp were so desolate, most people wanted you to compensate them in some way for groups.
Man, would be crazy if people, I dunno, actually made social connections with people while leveling, joined guilds and made friends, and then when they got to sixty, had a guild list and a friends list that provided them with plenty of people to message to set up dungeon groups, battleground groups, and even raid groups.
Would be crazy if players actually had to build a real community, and real relationships, rather than using an addon mimicking LFD, or Trade Chat.
Would just be… wild

We didn’t use trade channel for lfg.
We had an lfg chat channel that was very robust.
We had a Defense Channel that was very robust.
You went to where the action was by these 2 channels alone.
There was no ‘lfg’ app.
All you had to do was answer the Call to Arms (from DAoC, not an app) and fun would follow.
