Not Giving My Data (Phone #) to Blizzard

Quitting this game due to Blizzard’s extremely annoying attempt to farm my customer data, i.e. requiring phone authentication to have full access to the LFG. What is most frustrating is they try to disguise this attempt by saying it’s to stop WTS groups, which is really a joke since I’m already bombarded with trade chat and whisper advertisements when I log on.

Right with you OP. I’m with you on the I quit boat. I honestly don’t care enough about WoW to get a authenticator. Maby it is cause WoW sucks right now.

Yeah, no, that’s not what this is.

it’s two factor security, which is pretty quickly becoming a standard across all internet based transactions.

This is for account security, not for “farming your data”. The data part is just a bonus.

LOL! You actually think every thing about you isn’t already known across all of the internet. Comical.

That’s why you get a “throw away” phone. git gud :stuck_out_tongue:

No the data part is the main thing. If it was about security, they could do email or FOB authentication. The security thing is just a guise for simple minded people to think Blizzard’s doing the right thing lol…

No it isn’t. That’s just your conspiracy theory brain running wild.

Two factor has been in the game for a while, they even offered extra bag space to encourage you do do it. You declined, and NOW it’s a requirement, and now you’re just whining.

Those can be easily defeated.

Then don’t. And as a consequence don’t have full LFG options.
Win-win

Yeah, my dad Googled himself out of curiosity one day and found his home address, our whole family’s home addresses, all of our birthdays and phone numbers. The internet is scary.

The pre-set LFG options aren’t even good.

Why not a physical plug in authenticator? Can’t Blizzard sell those like they use too?

amazon sells them for $19

Do they still work?

You need SMS to get past the custom group thing, so those FOBs won’t work for that.

The only drawback is you’re unable to list somethin specific like “Necro elem” or “Lust

But again, having phone authenticator is safer than having email authenticator.
Blizzard has tried to be nice about it. No one listened. People complained about their accounts getting hacked.
Now, Blizzard “forces” (and that’s a big word to use) & people complain nonetheless.

Bottom line, I don’t really feel any pity towards those who refuse to take 1 tiny step to ensure safety of thousands of people.
