Not flagged pvp/WM but got sapped & killed?

I’m 1000% not into pvp of any kind, so I don’t ever flag myself for pvp/WM. I just flew from SW to Goldshire to do Hallow’s End quests, and as soon as I got there I was sapped and killed by horde players. Is there some kind of bug that would allow for this to happen? There’s been a number of peculiar bugs with the prepatch (to be expected) but this is a first.

was this on the hunter or another class
Did you do any of the following:

-attack any of the horde, even accidentally

-come out of Horde-territory within the last 5 minutes

-have been tricked into saying “/PvP” for any reason (some people will try to get lowbies to do this)

-healed or buffed anyone that fits any of the above 3 criteria

Did you do the undercity bomb quest? That would flag you.

Try not to feel bad about the gank, I played WM enough to know it’s no big deal. People tend to feel different when it’s another player doing the killing over a mob. What’s the difference between getting bs ganked by endless murloc spawns and killed by a rogue? One feels personal and the other doesn’t. Take personal out of the equation and it’s just one of many deaths in your wow life.

Pretty sure this doesn’t even work any more

it was on this character, I’d done the Hallow’s End stink bomb quest then took the FP from SW to Goldshire, there was no pvp flag (my name was blue) so it sounds like it must’ve been bugged because taking a FP is supposed to erase the pvp flag if you have one. All I had done once reaching Goldshire was collect a water bucket to start putting out the fires. Unless splashing the water on the fires somehow triggers an “attack” on a flagged horde player I can’t think of anything else that might have done it. I had zero interaction with any other player, wasn’t in group, just got a water bucket and splashed it on one of the building fires.

ok so there are 2 forms of pvp in the game. the first is war mode.
the second is pvp mode.
pvp mode will automatically activate if you kill an npc associated with the enemy faction, if you leaver a battleground, if you enter an enemy faction territory, or if you enter a world pvp area even if you flew through it on a flight path you will still get the pvp tag.
this tag lasts for 5 mins and any player with war mode on or who also has this tag will be able to kill you.
so with that in mind this is probably what happened to you.

Since when?!? I have never heard of using a flight point to clear your PvP flag.

it doesnt. infact like i said you can even still get one while using it

I does for me, on another character I did the quest to douse the horde Wickerman, went to the nearest flight path, and took a flight to the next closest inn to collect more tricky treats. It cleared the pvp flag as soon as I mounted the flight path

First I have every heard of that, it might have actually just been a byproduct of the flag expiring in that case but not in the one you are reporting.

If you get flagged when your PVP status is listed as “Disabled” and you see the “5min” timer above your avatar, taking a flight path will de-flag you immediately.

I just tested it, flagged myself after collecting the candy, disabled it, I was still showing as flagged, then took a FP and it cleared the pvp flag. As someone who is very pvp-averse, whenever I have found myself flagged (like some of those zones in Legion that have a WQ too close to a pvp zone) I’ve gone to the nearest FP as quickly as possible to get the flag cleared.

Last time I ever heard of this happening was back in Vanilla. Watched it happen to a friend of mine - not flagged & sitting on a mount just chatting, gets sapped then killed. Have no idea how they did it.

Lol, good times.

This is the first time I’ve ever been killed by another player when I wasn’t flagged for pvp, I’m chalking it up to a bug, there’s been a slew of them since prepatch. I guess for the next few days I’ll do all the trick or treating first before I do the stink bomb quest, in case that has something to do with it.
