Not even WoD had mass disliked videos

Title.
Why do you think there is such extreme vitriol for Blizzard now compared to Warlords of Draenor? The recent Zandalari Kul Tiran Human unlock requirements video was BOMBED with dislikes. You can go to the Mists of Pandaria reveal trailer. 50% 50% like/dislike. SIX POINT ONE SURVIVAL GUIDE. DO YOU REMEMBER 6.1.? About 60% 40%.
But now that the hate train for BfA is chugging at full steam ahead, the overwhelming votes for all YouTube content from World of Warcraft are dislikes.

Personally I believe it’s “cooler” to despise BfA than WoD because anti-establishment is extremely “in” right now. Just as well, the majority of content creators are overwhelmingly negative in coverage of the game and company.
BfA is a bitterly flawed expansion, but this amount of unrivaled hatred compared to WoD honestly sickens me.

Because protest dislike bombing stuff is now the in thing to do.

“Do you not have phones” = everyone for the rest of eternity being angry at Blizzard and downvoting everything.

Further, people angry about the layoffs.

Even further, regardless of whether or not the expansion gets better, it will likely be disliked regardless of opinion because that’s how people work.

I’m seeing that with movie reviews and all sorts of things these days.

The vindictiveness of the Internet apparently has no bounds.

Exactly what I was going to say.

wod didn’t exist in a timeline where manbabies have convinced themselves that discussion on the internet is somehow highbrow and intellectual by virtue of going thru a piece of technology

This might be a fallacious argument, but if you go by YouTube metrics alone.
Getting a SELFIE camera, a legendary follower, and a few new quests was more enjoyable than Dazar’alor, three new currencies, incursions, changes to Azerite armor, new war campaign quests, etc. etc. that was covered in the 8.1. prep.

Class design was better and wasn’t a nerf rollercoaster. Also, all of the things you mentioned are grinds.

People are much more sensitive and dramatic that they used to be. It is almost like everyone has morphed into 13 year old girls. Everything is so earth shatteringly devastating.

It was released November 2014. This was the peak of YouTubers and their cults proclaiming themselves as “rational skeptics”.
Don’t give me that.

yea gonna need a source on that

large, bearded men with glasses complaining about SJws and video games is something relatively new

I don’t think people are more dramatic about WoW now compared to the 14+ years people have proclaimed the game is LITERALLY GOING TO DIE ANYTIME SOON, even when the sub numbers were going up until 2012ish.

The toxic bro Gamergate culture hadn’t quite metastasized in the WoD era. Now, every time a girl gets to do things in a sci-fi movie or a game developer goes in a direction people don’t like, anonymous brigading and vote-bombing is the go-to.

because in an age when mass-clicks can be automated, likes/dislikes mean nothing?

Except I see it happening all over and not just with Blizzard products.

Maybe people are unhappy with the expansion and releasing videos portraying that everything is fine instead of communicating with the players is looked down upon.

Look at the warbringers videos or Old Soldier, both heavily upvoted, so you can’t say it’s all videos this expansion.

I didn’t notice that one, but I assume that it happened to Blizzard specifically due to Blizzcon. That’s when I noticed the nosedive, personally. As for other videos, I haven’t paid much attention to be honest.

Could be mass bots.

People are tired and just not buying the crap excuses ActiBlizz is selling anymore. It’s the same with all the AAA game companies, really.

“Hey guys, turns out all these loot box, micro transaction infested Skinner boxes with flashy lights are actually kinda not good. I’m going to go spend my time and money on some other product that does what I want!”

Gamergate, the main source of large, bearded men with glasses complaining about SJWs and video games, began in August 2014.

I could be wrong but Gamergate had a pretty immediate impact from August 2014 onward. So the time right before WoD released, Nov 2014.

There are actually people who sell dislike bot services to bomb YouTube videos. A few years ago it was DDoSing stuff, today it is dislike bombing.
