Not even one week into SoD

6th day of Season of Discovery

    1. Economy is completely ****ed up.

The level cap caused people too lazy to craft or farm to prematurely do quests to get the gold instead of exp and now the AH suffers hyperinflation. After this first phase passes, people will either struggle to get quests to level up cause they already did them or just spam dungeons making available content worthless.

    1. There is no incentive to do PvE.

Other than BFD, every other dungeon is just bothersome and not rewarding in the least. Cheap crafted equipment stands at equal or a negligible difference in stats compared to those from dungeons in comparison to the time it takes to find a group and go through it and there isnt even a balance in the drops considering how at level 25 up to even 5 classes roll for leather. There is no new pre-BiS to keep players engaged in PvE while waiting for BFD to unlock 3 days after meaning professions that don’t create consumables are virtually useless.

    1. PvP is all over the place.

Battlegrounds: There is a big lack of balance between horde and alliance when considering compositions since alliance has more effective roles covered than horde. Paladins can tank, dps and heal while having a large amount of druids, shamans can’t even compare against stealth and bubble. It’s even to the point that, very often, every single member on the alliance side can and will heal. In this level bracket, alliance owns battlegrounds.

Ashenvale: The biggest fumble in this Season of Discovery is the Battle for Ashenvale. There is no introduction to the factions, there is no introduction to the events, there are no instructions on what to do or where to go, there are no new NPCs to talk to and learn about it. The bosses die about 2-3 minutes after the event kicks in. There is no reputation gain for “participating” on 90% of the PvP in the region. There is no reputation gain from WPvP in the region, no gain from defending, no gain from rising the progress % and, sometimes, no rep from killing the boss. (Still figuring out whats wrong with the last one, so if you got any clue let me know). For this to be the main spotlight besides BFD, its incredibly lackluster and terribly designed, there were no thoughts put into this whatsoever and looks like someone simply wanted to put a mix between Arathi Basin and Alterac Valley right on top of the overworld and call it a day. More like Season of Discovery it feels like Season of TrialAndError.

    1. Fixes

It is understandable that the new runes system would mess with classic’s skills and spells, its a given. But that should have been properly tested before the release. It should be Season of Discovery for us players, not for the developers as well. This obviously will continue and people will keep losing hours upon hours of leveling pets, rerolling characters and getting used to other ways to play. But what’s even more bothersome is that there aren’t even proper patchnotes for these hotfixes. Within the forums there are some hotfixes posts about season of discovery mixing in fixes from Dragonflight for reasons beyond my understanding. I shouldn’t have to roam twitter to find random posts about whatever was fixed isntead of it being announced on the official forums.

    1. Layering

Layers need better management. Population is all over the place, some layers are overpopulated, some are underpopulated and people move between them very VERY willingly. There are unexpected layer hops forced on the player while they are doing something and it can be so very easily exploited and abused to get quest objectives, farm drops and reputation, its not even funny. Something that would have taken at least a week of playing all day long was done in half the time by layer exploiting, seeing how there are many Revered+ already, something mechanically impossible without this feature.

I still dont know what Supplies are for, there is incredibly little information on them ingame, why do i have to discover something that should be known? Discovery is for hidden things, not things of public use. It’s like you are telling me to figure out how a toilet works otherwise i cannot use it. It’s Season of Discovery, not Season of Ignorance.

I personally suffer some of the issues i listed here and i’m sure many more also do. I don’t care about the economy and i’m just a casual pvper. I was logging in every hour to run event boss fights but i dont even get rep from it so I wont do it anymore. I lost any incentive to do bgs due to lack of balance and all i have left to do with WoW is log in once every 3 days to run BFD. If this is how the game was intended to be played, then congratulations, your game is a success.

Only thing I will agree with you on here is the layering. I was questing in the Wetlands killing Murlocs and mid fight I phased into another layer. Didn’t even join a group or anything. Only time that has happened to me so far though.

what did you expect going into a lvl 25 season that had no testing beforehand (on purpose)? i think blizz sold it since day 1 as what it’s turning out to be: chaotic fun

layering is annoying, but overall i think your expectations for this are whack.

The economy is working fine. There is an influx in gold due to quests therefore prices go up. When gold is less available prices will go down.

I think there’s a large discussion to be had with the second point. Of course it would be great if DM and WC could have gotten more attention so they could play better at level 25. But at the same time we can’t get everything. I’m glad they focused on making classes feel fresh. Even doing fresh new dungeons would feel tedious if I was playing the same classes from 18 years ago.

SoD is a Beta Test in everything but name.

The older generation is probably waiting for all the younger generation to get bored and leave, so we can play the game. (I could be guessing here).

We appreciate Blizzard that because this is the design, so we can eventually catch up when it’s time.

Wow, I will have to disagree with you on almost everything.

I fear they’ll come back at the beginning of each new phase. So the first couple weeks of each phase will suck. Just a guess.

Yea I was tapping a node after I killed a mob and mid tapping I was phased and I lost the node. That was rather disappointing.

I would love to understand wtf WoW players mean with this stuff. It definitely means something completely different to each person who complains about it, I know that much already.

You level, then you do the raid. Everything else is optional. This has been the WoW way for decades.

Would I like to see Blizz take inspiration from other games and provide incentives for players to keep running other dungeon content? Sure! Are they, though? Extremely doubtful, and I don’t expect them to ever change.

insert It always was meme

Ashenvale definitely needs some changes, and I would love if a dev would at least whisper on the forums about changes coming to it. Personally, I would say make it a single layer event where everyone zone wide who engaged in PvP in the last 5 minutes is rewarded with each boss kill. Obviously easier said than done. But hopefully at the very least, they learn for whatever the STV event is going to be.

Agreed on keeping posts about fixes in a central location. Disagree that they shouldn’t fix anything. Some stuff is obviously much stronger than they intended, and they do need to keep in mind how it will play out with future runes & higher levels, things we obviously do not have access to.

Only fix I’d want to see is completely remove it from the Ashenvale event. I don’t even care that people are getting exalted; it’s just a PITA to deal with.

And this is my big one. Unfilled supplies shouldn’t stop you from picking up more, if the rep is going to be important at all. Or, there should be turn ins at every single FP area.

#1. Not sure if you get extra gold for being level capped, but I think you do. Maybe that shouldn’t be the case until 60. Doesn’t actually bother me, but I can see that argument.

#2. Why stop there? How about there is no incentive to play a video game at all since there is no tangible benefit to your life. I don’t find it bothersome to run a dungeon. If you do, then I don’t know why you play tbh. Do you also expect gear every time you go do a raid? Or do you do the content anyways because that’s part of the game?

#3. What? First off, both factions get druids. It’s not bliz fault if your server has more ally druids than horde. So your point about shamans not being able to compete with stealth is silly. Also, this may be the only phase where shamans won’t be globaling paladins. Shamans have historically dominated paladins. The bubble doesn’t mean much when you have to use that time to try and get off 2 holy lights before another chain lighting/ES combo drops you from full. Horde have just as many healing classes, and you can make a good argument that non healing spec shamans are much better at healing than non healing spec paladins.

As for Ashenvale, why would they tell you exactly how to do the event in the SEASONS OF DISCOVERY? Go discover how to do it.

#4. Blizzard has always adjusted the classes with new content. This isn’t new. Sure they could have done a beta test, in which case, the only thing to discover would be which website already published all the secrets. No thanks. I like this better.

#5. I agree. The layering needs help. I think they forgot that an entire server’s population would be crammed into all the same starting zones. Anybody who has tried to get condor meat knows. I hope they can improve that for next phase.

As for the supplies, why do you think they should be known? This is the SEASON OF DISCOVERY. Go discover it. And what rep are you expecting for doing boss fights? You want Deadmines rep or something? Not sure what your expectation is for that, but I think it’s probably misplaced.

This part he kind of has a point, though. (Kind of doing a lot of work in that sentence)

Most people who roll druids are rolling Night Elf. Taurens are ugly, and have a terrible starting zone.

It’s time to remove faction lock and allow Night Elf Druids to roll Horde.

There’s no need to broadcast your lack of reading ability to the whole room, you could just keep it to yourself and be better off for it.

I disagree. I think warstomp makes tauren unequivocally better. That’s not to say it makes more people want to play it though. I have a NE because my friends are playing ally.

Oh hey, you get around to explaining g why World Buffs are actually a good thing, yet?

I always hate this argument. You buy and sell in the same market - if AH prices are hyperinflated, that means you can sell your low level mats / drops at an inflated rate and fund your purchases. Particular your class training, which have static prices.

Because they’re fun? I didn’t think this needed an explanation. Poor marks all around here.

It took me 15 seconds to imbibe the OP but for you it’s too much, and you don’t even know why people like world buffs in Classic?

Do you need help tying your shoes too?
