"Not Bad." A veteran prot warrior's view on 8.1 changes

TLDR: LOVE where prot warrs are now. Charge and IP off the ignore pain does NOT break us and make us OP, the increase to armor and stam does insert sunglasses emoji. For real, I’ve been playing prot warrior since I started playing years and years ago and I can honestly say, amidst the myriad of issues with BfA, prot warrior’s feeling good. The GCD changes honestly make taking devastator or booming voice a viable option (no one takes vengeance :P). To those prot boiz who stuck it through these past few months livin’ the PROT dream, we made it. Excited to farm that sick nasty mythic plate set in BfDA next month.

Little about me: Been playing prot warrior for over a decade. Have accumulated over 386 days played on my main (this doesn’t include every other warrior I’ve had). Always been a tank and have no intention of changing that any time soon. Had some life stuff come up during Uldir so didn’t really do much in there.

To anyone new to tanking, warrior tanking or coming back to it, feel free to hit me up at sinwitdagrin#1931 with any questions or post em here.

Question from a veteran prot warrior

In what scenario would you ever take deveststor over Bv?

I can’t think of a single one

Thrash tank on Fetid.

I use it in M+ and I love it. It might not be ideal, but it is a really fun playstyle. I stack haste, I do a lot of boss damage, and I rarely have empty globals (never in aoe or avatar uptime).

The worst place to use it, because the whole point of BV is not only great rage gen, but insane AoE damage. The single target boost of Devastator is not even near the value of BV in aoe, and trash is all that matters in m+.

lololol ya 8k health really helps alot whrn spells hit for 20 to 40 k. lolo the armor soaks alot up right lolo

Yeah, they’re actually pretty significant, lol. The 2 second recharge and ability to dump rage off the GCD are also big. Warriors really weren’t as far behind as everyone thought in 8.1, they only needed a little nudge to put them where they are now.
