When trying to play in the launch test it removes me from in game on retail, is this intended? All I usually do is farm/camp for mounts and don’t see why one is not allowed to have both versions open at a single time

Did you ask in the Bugs forum for Classic?
It’s using the same subscription for both that Classic and Retail account. Essentially you’re just playing on a different set of servers, makes sense that you wouldn’t be able to have both open.

You would need two accounts, you are already logged in.
I noticed this as well. If they are supposed to be two completely different versions/games then it seems a bit ridiculous that it logs you out. I can be logged into retail WoW and Hearthstone at the same time so why not current WoW & Classic Wow?

why would you want to? It honestly never occurred for me to try
I don’t know about others, but for me specifically, I collect mounts. So when reset day comes around I usually spend a bit of time throughout the week camping and killing world bosses like Galleon for a chance at the mount. I was hoping instead of browsing Reddit and occasional Netflix that I would be able to play classic in between spawn and kills to occupy my time.
I’m the same way. I would like to have both open at the same time. Since downtime in classic is a thing I would like to be doing something on live while waiting.

WoW and Hearthstone are two different games. WoW and WoW Classic are not. Different versions, yes. Games, no. They are both World of Warcraft and go off of the same subscription. So, logged into Classic, you’re already logged into your WoW subrscription. Same with retail. If you want to be logged on to World of Warcraft twice, you need two accounts.

So I have to have two accounts subbed now? just to alt-tab feature?
I do understand how it’s a single subscription, I still strongly feel that we should be allowed to have both Retail and Classic open at once though.
You don’t want an alt-tab feature, you want to play two characters at the same time for price of one.
I’m unsure why you feel that way if you understand why. It would be identical to having one client of retail open and logged into one character to farm mounts, and another on the same account logged in to a different character to be in a raid. One subscription means one subscription.
Blizz already said you cannot play both at the same time on the same account.
Want to play both at the same time…get a second account.
One sub = 1 game
