Not a fan of Hallowfall

I’m not sure what it is, but something bugs me about Hallowfall and makes me dislike the zone but I’m not quite sure what it is. Does anyone else share this sentiment of disliking this zone?

For what it’s worth, I was really looking forward to this zone pre-release. I think it looks stunning. The quest/storyline is just okay, though definitely not bad by any means and I don’t hate Faerin like some do. I think she’s fine.

But yeah, something about the zone bugs me the way that no other zone in wow does. Perhaps it’s because the zone has very clearly been rule-of-cool first, lore and logic second? It makes 0 sense that the Arathi in the short amount of time were able to, or even were motivated to make such incredible edifices when basic survival is at stake.

Magic, you say. Yeah, maybe. So they had a made who specialized in architecture but not Teleport: Arathi Empire. Okay.:roll_eyes::roll_eyes:

It’s apparent somewhere in production, the timeline was changed. Why, who knows.

Also the Arathi look REALLY cool but it’s clear they’re a rip-off from Diablo 4. Love the mogs, love the look but let’s call a spade a spade.

The priory faction is also basically Scarlet Crusade at home.

Airships are dope but again, such a rule of cool thing. Why air ships in an underground cavern? Who knows?

So yeah, not feeling you Hallowfall. And I gotta say it’s a one off because I don’t hate you and all the ingredients are exquisite but just not working for me together. Anyone else?

Edit: oh just wanted to add… Went to Boralus the other day and Boralus and Kul Tiras just work for me in a way that Hallowfall and the Arathi don’t.

Boralus and Kul Tiras were well done. I agree they were better. The Hallowfall zone is maybe my favorite looking zone aesthetically. The changing crystal, I love the color palette, flying blimps underground really lend to the underground world fantasy. The music is quite good too.

But yea, I agree, there is something missing. I spend a lot of time there farming, and I know the map by heart. It’s a beautiful zone. The substance of it though is kind of mid.

Yeah, I think this is what really lead me to start this discussion because that’s are zones I do not care for in wow due to aesthetics, layout, story or a combination. But with Hallowfall I happen to like the granular ingredients but the final product feels off.

It’s beautiful, but empty?

The northwest quadrant is probably my least favorite area only because those quests are brutal.

I like it best when the crystal is dark.

I agree that the dual lighting is gorgeous and atmospheric.

I’m not either — it’s the way they speak, really. I’m getting those uncomfortable vibes similar to when a Johonah’s (can’t spell) Witness comes to your door and knocks.

Yuck.

I don’t disagree that it pushes the suspension of disbelief a bit. But does it bother me? Not at all. It’s a cool zone with a cool vibe, and I like the arathi lore. Im happy to accept that they managed to build such a society in such a short time because they are just that good. Just a highly motivated group of zealots. It just makes me think that when we eventually do see their glorious empire of light it needs to be absolutely spectacular!

Best part about Hallowfall was that first moment you go into there and there’s a scenic view before you.

It’s a big, empty, boring zone with a chandelier painted into the sky (it changes colors, omg it’s revolutionary! NOT)

And it had the worst storyline out of all the TWW zones.

Not a fan either.

I think a bit empty in spirit. Arathi are like zealot crusaders right? I expected maybe them to be more war focused rather than everything else we quest on. The type that would slap Anduin upside the head, and smash a sword to his chest and say “get out on the front lines!”.

It’s not really a huge deal to me, but yea.

The numerous elite dailies was a bit much for me, as there were not groups doing it after a month or two after expansion release. They shouldve just made the elite area a normal quest daily area, as its too grindy imo.

As soon as I got the Lynx mount from there, i wanted to stay away from that area altogether. I do love some parts of Hallowfall though

The Arathi definitey do put off a weird Cult Vibe. The Emperor worship is pretty off-putting and seems a lot different from how the Eastern Kingdoms soldiers praise their monarchs.

The zone is poor for a questing circuit and that is not fun. BFA kind of had that issue too on some of the maps. Same with systemlands maps. DF improved on the questing circuit idea but they went backwards with TWW maps layouts. Lets admit it that is the truth.

Why BlizZard designs maps like this in the year 2025 is baffling when you look a the popularity of classic maps.

i had that same “off” vibe about hallowfall in the beginning. I would activley avoid the place TBH. But I gave it a shot when I needed to farm rep for profession skill point upgrades and I really got into the storyline, really enjoyed everything about the place and its probably my favorite of the new expansion right now. still though… something is off… i pin it on the abstract and extremly up and down landscape. HUGE altitude differences all over the places, pillars of land jetting up all over the place with REALLY deep trenches and falls. I guess thats why they have airships?
still though, love the lore, love their architecture, all of it.

As a Paladin main, I feel compelled to let you know that while I liked your post, it was difficult :upside_down_face:

The only problem I have with Hallowfall is humans.

I wouldn’t be surprised they’re the new Twilight Hammer Cult to some nameless void being under the guise of Med’an

The Darkmaul Ogres built a Copy of the Gorian Empire in Exile’s Reach.

Races building Grand Empires in short spans of time is nothing new.

It seems to be a relative fact that once a Grand Empire is built the people of WoW don’t add to their already conquered territory. They need an uncharted patch of land they just colonized in order to be inspired to build a Grand Realm!
