Guy, I can read your OP. You insult everyone that likes older things by telling them to stop living in the past. That phrase has literally never been said in a positive way, but yeah, you didn’t do anything wrong.
Being blinded by nostalgia is indeed dangerous, but believing all that is new is gold and that nothing can be learned from the past is equally as dangerous. As always, balance is critical.
That falls pretty flat for those of us who sign into Classic to screw around leveling alts doing quests that are no longer accessible on retail. We’re never gonna get that Thunderfury, and that’s fine because that’s not the point.
It’s important to not stagnate and get stuck in the past for sure, but I don’t think this culture we’ve developed in the past decade or so where media of all types is disposable and loses its value something new shows up is good. It’s not sustainable and arguably not healthy. It’s no coincidence that media has been losing depth as it becomes more disposable… those who partake don’t want to spend the time to extract that kind of value because there’s 50 other things they need to burn through to keep up with their circle, and those who create don’t have enough time to add in any kind of depth anyway.
You were quite literally telling players stop living in the past in that comment. That isn’t a suggestion, that’s a demand. And that is on you for how you’ve delivered that message. That was the point of my comment.
There’s no real reason to deflect to the ole “That’s your problem, it’s in your mind, it’s what people wanted to see” like you have in the other responses in this topic to me, that unless your being disingenuous here.
I wouldn’t bother. He insults all who disagree in his first post, and is trying to play the victim now. He’s either trolling, or not quite there. Either way, not worth it.
It’s amazing what people read into words. It’s like a window into your state of mind. How is seeing enemies everywhere working for you?
You just dislike the fact that people disagreed with your topic. It doesn’t go that deep as you’re making it out to be here.
I smell projection.
Morrowind. Particularly Morrowind with Tamriel Rebuilt and other mods. Also happens to be the older game.
OP: ‘Stop living in the past’. Well maybe if the present actually had something worth playing or looking at I would. It does not however. I have gotten to the level of searching through old PC gaming magazine scans to search for titles I’ve never played or seen before. That would not be ‘nostalgia’ because I’ve never played them, they would in fact be new to me.
It is and it isn’t. I’ll still play ff3 (6) or ogrebattle to this very day.
But some other things… better to leave them to memory
As much i was asking for OP to show me a new game that is better then the old game, this comment of yours does help the point i was trying to make that there’s disproportionately more old games that are better then the new games. And not because games are good because they are old, i mean if that’s true, Action 52 would be a masterpiece. It’s because the current gaming’s focus isn’t really not much on art or passion anymore, but turning things into live services or monetizing it ala mobile, making it simpler for the casual audience or try to get everybody in one big net, or pandering to whatever politic or social thing is trending. All for pretty much one thing.
It is rare to see a new game that is excellent and is not all that or a new game is better then the old game.
Your sense of smell I find lacking.
I like how you just ignored nearly every comment i’ve, just to focus on the really minor stuff i said and even go off-topic or deflect with it like you did with this one.
Gosh, that’s not disingenuous at all. It’s not like you don’t have any real counters to what i’ve said here. Nah, you’re just being funny… Atfer people disagreed with you. you wern’t before, but now you are… Ha? /s
I think a lot of newer games also suffer greatly from needlessly rushed timelines (see CP2077 for a prime example). It kind of goes into the same point I made in an earlier post about unsustainability — game studios are expected by players and shareholders to churn out masses of new content at ever increasing speeds and it just isn’t workable. Good games take a lot of time to make and nobody involved seems to be willing to give that time.
??? wtf there are no smells in text
To be completely fair, rushed timelines, crunch and buggy releases was a thing with old games too. Action 52, Spyro Enter the Dragonfly, Big Rigs over the road racing, The Elder Scrolls: Arena (Bethesda didn’t get any better over the years), Driver 3, pretty much any Phoneix game on the Ps2, so on and so on.
Oh for sure. Like for example what Microsoft did with Lionhead studios in rushing the releases of the last few Fable games was absolutely criminal.
It’s becoming more of a rule than exception though, with the appetites of both players and shareholders growing ever more ravenous.
He was responding to my comment to his comment here.
Obviously, it’s me telling him that he’s simply projecting what he was feeling that comment here. A bit irony that OP has created.
I apologize seriously I will offer more responses once I’m back in my house here in a bit. I was at a Vietnam memorial.

Okay?
I mean i get it and i accept your apology, you just don’t need to apologize for not responding fast or substantive enough.
I’d not be even subbed for retail the game-play is not fun at all, only reason I like playing classic is because I like the game play, how the classes play is fun and how they interact, Plus not having the scaling so I can measure my advancement, challenge myself to go up to higher mobs or for just fun mow though lower mobs that once gave me a challenge. *not sure that’s really Nostalgia I’m not trying to relive anything I like how the game plays (people still play chess after how many years with the same gameplay)
*something else I really liked and the original designers were against, I remember reading a response in the old forums (around BC or Wrath times) about having PVP talents and that the classes should not play differently in PVP vs PVE…
IMO the old expansions were just better “games”
I mean bro your reading way to much Malice into my words. Your coming across pretty terse yourself but it doesn’t bother me. I get it we all have opinions that’s the point.
