Currently doing sm, level 36. Is it normal to barely have Rage normally? Am I just not angry enough?
Is a Priest bubbling you?
No not bubbles. Totally getting hit, thought I’d be more pissed from that. Maybe it’s normal XD
You’ll be rage starved your whole life. You need to get hit either stupid hard or by a lot of things at once to get any decent rage income.
Things that piss me off:
- rogue cheap shotting the first mob on every pull. Stop it. I need to get hit by that mob.
- anyone AoEing right at the start of the pull. Sod off. I need to get hit by them too.
- mages frost nova-ing mobs. If you are saving the healer or catching a runner, fine, otherwise you’re just freezing mobs just slightly out of range of the tank so they melee swing the closest target (likely some other poor DPS). Again, denying me rage, and also causing unnecessary party damage. Stop it! When you actually want a mage to AOE they’ll be do some other weird useless thing.
Depends. I’ve never played a warrior but on my Druid, it depends. Sometimes the mobs just don’t hit hard/fast enough and you can feel starved.
On my druid, to combat this I try and get as close to 20% crit as I can. I then ensure I am always fighting at least 3 mobs. I have a talent for 5 extra rage on every crit. So, constantly cleaving usually ensures I’ll get some decent rage flow. I also stop using attacks (except autos) when I know I don’t need any more threat and then pool rage for the next pull and keep it going like that.
I don’t know if any of that would apply to a war but perhaps you’re simply avoiding/blocking/missing too much, etc. best thing you can do is try and compensate. In my case anyway, it’ll get easier for me the higher my crit chance goes. Since I can’t block though, I do get hit frequently
Sit for the first few hits in the pull. They’ll auto-crit you.
Use a two hander. It’s trendy to complain about this on the forums lately, but you will have rage.
edit: dual wield works too.
Haha yeah a warlock in a group decided he likes to smack the casters I try to bow pull to Los, pulls the Aggro, and doesn’t think (oh, a wall/pillar, would probably los it to the rest of us. I just try to accept people will do things that won’t help me and just try to manage as best I can so I don’t get too urked.
Rage wise. I feel like I do use all my rage to manage Aggro, I don’t think I’m a spamming moves too much, and sometimes do lose threat on some things. With little rage, hard to re-aggro when I’ve already used taunt for another one. Again maybe this is just normal XD
rage recevied nerfs over the course of vanilla wow, and it was completely changed in 2.0
thats why 2h/dw tanking is a thing
Leveling, this was a constant issue. My solution? My priest friend and I would get +2 levels on a dungeon and I’d go in there with a 2H. With smart pulls, you generate tons of threat and tons of rage because you’re getting hit. Charge > Berserker Stance > Berserker Rage > Whirlwind > Defensive Stance all in about a second. Then just maintain your debuffs.
Works just as well with good CC, if not better, and made tanking FUN again.
Rage for Bear Tanks and Protection Warriors is a constant painful struggle (especially at the 10-30 ranks) . I guess that was the classic experience. Perhaps the next update Blizz will tweak that a little bit.
Initially, yes. You have to get beat up to get rage. Is it safe to assume DPS kicks in almost as soon as you draw aggro? If so, that right there is the reason.
If you plan to tank PuGs you HAVE to control the group, or you’ll suffer. Tell them once to wait [insert condition/timeframe here] and if they don’t, combatswap into Battle Stance, toss on a 2H or DW and let them tank it. They’ll learn, or they’ll die.
And if you’re a single-target focus tank like me, it’s handy to keybind or macro SKull marking. Mine is macroed to my Sunder Armor. Cleave and Battle Shout hold AoE threat just fine if they focus, and those mobs hitting on me gives me endless rage.
No, doesn’t work.
Nope. Have to learn to deal with it.
I am constantly rage starved as a Bear tank because idiot DPS folks with their damn retail mindset of jumping in before you can establish threat or build any rage is a foreign concept to most apparently.
At a point where I am telling my group healers to stop healing the idiots that pull agro up front, let them die repeatedly and break their armor. If they rage quit because they aren’t getting healed, then maybe it’s a good thing, as common sense seems to also be a foreign concept to most of these dps folks.
I am already telling my groups to give me some time to build rage + threat, (let me get 2 mauls in pretty please?) or asking DPS to FF on my marked target, instead of AOE spamming to hell the mobs I am trying to hold and everyone wanting to hit different targets.
I guess there aren’t that many quality players who understand rage or threat in Classic, so time to weed them out and I don’t give a damn if they start leaving guild over it, if you can’t follow some basic instructions or can’t control that compulsive dps need to jump in right after a group of mobs are pulled, your frankly not the type of player I need or want in my groups / raids.
