Normal or PvP?

As much as I want to do world PvP, I’m afraid that I won’t be able to level effectively due to the large volume of players playing on PvP servers, and the real fear of getting ganked over and over again. Should I just play on a Normal server instead, or should I just stick to my original plan of playing on a PvP server and pray for the best?

Pvp.

Its not about efficient lvling, that will take a very very long time.

Having fun on the way to 60 is way more important.

Pvp gives you that additional sense of danger, that one thing more to look out for, to scout your surroundings. Its what allows you to write yourn own stories to share and live through.

PvP is more efficient leveling.

Those alliance slimes killing your quest mobs? Kill them. More mobs for me.

Reasons to roll pve:

You want to get your things done.
Its way less stressful.
Want to throw out your cooldowns and max dps on a tricky mob, no problem.
Fewer people trying to goad you into a reaction.
You really hate pvp.
Ganking and camping sucks.
Faction imbalance.
Theres probably way more. This is just a general pros and cons.

Reasons to roll PVP.

A very brief window for genuine and insane world PVP.
You will really feel your faction fantasy.
REVENGE (and increased immersion).
The world is living and breathing. You cant just blow your cooldowns. Every trash mob is a decision point. Blow your cooldowns… and someone comes over the horizon…
Forum drama fun.
Friends you’ll make who save your butt in the world.
Faction imbalance means a) you win, or b) you have a target rich environment and are going to end up getting good at pvp whether you like it or not.
You really like PVP.

In the early days of servers there’s a lot of people that won’t look for fights, especially when just getting to a questing area. That just starts a blood feud and they need to watch their back all the time.

Maybe they’ll start something when they’ve finished their quests but then you’ve got their name.

But there’s also people that will start fighting as soon as they get to an area as some form of asserting dominance, usually only when they know they hard counter your class.

World PvP is in my opinion the single most enjoyable aspect of WoW.

So my vote is of course for PvP.

However, it is not for everyone.

If you want to rush to 60 and/or just zen level then pve

If you want to play a rouge -> pvp

I’m personally going PvE, simply because I can’t be bothered. That said, if you think you’re interested in PvP servers at all, I’d say go for it. Keep in mind that you’ve got a bit of protection from getting ganked…

  • Horde and Alliance zones don’t overlap much until later levels.
  • It will be a bit of time before people are high enough level to give you troubles.
  • Classic’s release has stirred up mad hype, so anybody coming into your zones to mess with you will certainly be met with heavy resistance.

Unless you’re playing a NE and sticking with Kalimdor, you probably won’t see another Horde player until your character is starting the 30 ish zones.

The only thing I’ll add here is that if you don’t think you can keep up with the general leveling curve (ie, classic will not be your main game), then you might want to consider PvE. Late leveling on a PvP server invalidates all my above points

They call them ‘normal’ servers so the people who play on them don’t feel bad.

pvp is the only true endgame on a pve game

Honestly? There’s still plenty of PvP, including world PvP, on Normal servers. It is just that you have the option of opting out of it if you want to level up, or do questing, or explore, or get materials. If going around ganking and getting ganked isn’t your primary focus, then Normal is probably a better fit. You can still flag PvP and do the Tarren Mill vs. Darkshore thing, or run around Stranglethorn Vale, or raid Stormwind. But it is your choice, not trying to grind on mobs, and suddenly a rogue backstabs you when you were in the middle of a fight.

Vanilla WoW PVP was just Epic! you really had to fight for things and even in order for you to get into dungeons it was no easy task. there would have been full scale wars fighting for dungeons!

Im playing PvP, I regretted rolling on a PvE server in Vanilla…

  • Normal if you want get a lv 60 on 90-100 hours.
  • PvP if you want get a lv 60 on 120-150 hours cuz the gankers lol

If you want inmmersion 110% PvP server everything will cost you a lot even some stupid quests people camp them to kill you LOL

Thanks a lot, everybody. I’ve decided that I’ll start with PvP servers, and if it becomes a little too overwhelming for me, then I’ll just roll some new toons on the Normal servers. I should have mentioned that Classic will not be my main game, so another one of my fears is falling behind the average player level. See you all later in the evening! Shaman, here I come!

The keyword is “fear”. If you enjoy that fear, and it adds to the excitement, go PVP. However if that fear of getting ganked and having your leveling interrupted bothers you a lot, then PVE. Even if you enjoy PVP but would rather not mix the 2 into a PVPVE experience, then go to PVE and do your PVP in BG’s. Just a suggestion, either way good luck!

BGs is PvP, you are not missing alot playing PvE realm, on contrary you will hate the game when two friends will be ganking you while you quest with no way of countering besides asking for help or waiting for them to leave and if they are rogues no way you can counter that.

So True. We all know PvP servers is the real Default

There’s no WPvP in TBC.

I will say though people will try to sell you the experience but you’re only going to get camped while leveling if you happen to be on a server where the faction balance isn’t in your favor.

Going PVE.
