So with Azerite popping up everywhere that seems to have some kind of subterranean theme, am I the only one wondering what’s going on with the roots of certain World Tree?
I mean, I know we’re told the blessings were spent, but we’ve also seen that Titan magic lingers. A long time. Perhaps the blood of “the strongest nascent titan ever” could re-empower them? I mean, it’s inferred they’re a part of the tree itself, imbued literally as it grew, so maybe? And those roots go pretty deep.
It’s the center of nelf culture and druidism lol, I think we’re going back eventually. It’s not like they can’t add more phases to it, and at this point, it might be the only thing strong enough to even attempt closing that gaping wound in Silithus.
It’d also be nice to not have the giant Ragnaros palace in the middle of the zone. Jus’ sayin.
Rather than helping it Nordrassil has Azerite ruptures under/around it before we step in and heal it. Magni speculates we stopped a chain reaction that likely would of toppled the world tree over and torn another huge wound like what Sargeras’ sword caused.
…possibly a mini sundering, basically.
I would love a revamp of Hyjal, making it a Kaldorei homeland… but pulling it out of Cataclysm would be a massive undertaking that I do not think they would feel justified in doing atm.
Too late. During Legion, in the Druid order hall story, Nordrassil was attacked by demons and the Well of Eternity was almost entirely drained. I have a feeling that’s going to be ignored though.
I can’t wait till Azerite infuses Nordrassil through its roots, transforming Nordrassil to a massive ent so that it can walk across Azeroth and pwn N’zoth!
Retconned by Chronicle. Now Malfurion only ignited the enchantments the Aspects gave for the Night Elves. Which I guess helps explains why Nordrassil looked just fine once we went back to it in Cataclysm.
Sort of. The tree was still scorched by thousands of kamikazi wisps detonating and subsequently the blessings themselves basically being released as an explosive shock wave… but years and lots of druidic magic had seen it basically recovered by the time of Cataclysm.
From World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume III, Page 80:
The World Tree Nordrassil was imbued with powerful enchantments from the Dragon Aspects, enchantments that granted the night elves immortality and immunity to sickness and disease. Malfuion believe that he and his fellow druids could ignite these magics, causing an explosion that would annihilate Achimonde and the Legion invaders.
…
By the time Archimonde reached Nordrassil, Malfurion and his druids had completed their work. Countless incorporeal spirits known as wisps emerged from the forest around Hyjal. They closed in around Archimonde, but they did not attack him. At Malfurion’s urging, they instead channeled their energies into the World Tree and ignited the enchantments within.
A shockwave of blinding energy erupted from Nordrassil, shaking Kalimdor to its roots. Archimonde was instantly destroyed. So were most of his undead and demons. The Legion’s hopes of seizing the second Well of Eternity were shattered.
Page 81:
Tyrande Whisperwind and Malfurion Stormrage remained in Hyjal and began rebuilding. Most of the surrounding woodlands were in ruins. Worse yet, Nordrassil had been damaged by the explosion. Many of its great roots, which had provided life-giving energies to the world, withered and died. Though Nordrassil would heal in time, the enchantments from the Dragon Aspects were gone.
