Im not sure if im missing some spell interaction but why does my wither stacks decrease if im talented into them being permeant
I think, I’m not certain, there’s a talent in the H tree that causes you to gain stacks and then also cause them to explode I think? I’m not looking at it currently so I’m not 100 percent. The actual spell is permanent, the actual wither spell won’t drop off if you’re talented into permanent corruption/wither but the actual stacks drop off to explode for extra dmg. I think it’s MR that either builds them or makes them count down.

Wither replaces corruption, but the ability is then built upon through other various hero talents like Blackened Soul and Bleakheart Tactics. Both effects allow Wither to gain “stacks” which (when reaching 8 stacks or 20% health on a mob) become acute, dealing Shadowflame damage every 1 second for each stack of Wither which causes the stacks to count down back to 0.

Because Spell Duration and Stacks are two completely separate mechanics.
The duration is permanent, meaning you do not have to refresh it since the DoT doesn’t expire. The stack mechanics depends on soul shard spending and reaching 8 stacks will reset it back to 1.
Wither is not like Agony. Agony’s stack count depends on its elapsed duration, so it’s duration and stacks for Agony are essentially the same.
