Noob Tactics' Guide for Noobs on How To Prepare Alts for TWW!

This guide is intended to be a no-nonsense guide to make a LOT more progress gearing your alts with virtually zero difficulty.

To clarify, this is NOT a “zero effort” guide. There will be some moderate grinding to gear up each alt and you should be prepared for that.

This guide is for players that, like me, don’t have the skill or gold to drop on Mythic+ carries or raid carry services.

There will be 4 stages to this process. Each stage is as easy as the rest.

STAGE 1-

  1. Gear up initially by buying PVP 451 gear off the auction house. A bit pricey but it makes you survive more activities easier. Should cost a total of 120-150k gold for a full set!

Edit: Note: If you cannot afford 451 gear, you can use dream surge coalescense to exchange for gear at the right vendor.

STAGE 2-

  1. Gather Whelpling Crests by spamming dungeons and Zaralek Caverns world quest (Zaralak Caverns each grant FOUR whelpling’s crests per world quest completion, AND all heroic dungeons net you 10 crests).
  2. Once you gather 30 crests (can view amount in your currency tab of your character window), go to Alchemy supplies vendor “Andoris” in Valdrakken. There you can buy the Nascent Whelping Crest of Awakening for 30 crests.
  3. Once you have a nascent crest of awakening, go to crafting orders and craft an “Enchanted Whelping Awakened Crest.”
  4. Once you have an Enchanted Whelpling Crest, craft 486 blue armor in slots you need.

NOTE: Do NOT craft gear for head, chest, shoulders, gloves, or pants. You will be using those slots later on!

STAGE 3-

  1. Kill weekly Radiant Echoes boss once per week for 493 Loot drop. It only drops one per week, NOT one per boss.
  2. Do Weekly Radiant Echoes quests. Each character this should net 3 weekly quests worth a total of 9k Residual Memories currency.
  3. Buy catch up head, shoulders, chest, pants, and/or gloves with said currency.
  4. Go to Creation Catalyst and upgrade those 4-5 items you bought with said currency and then enjoy your free 4 piece set with almost NO grinding or effort

Now that you have 4 piece tier set gear, you can continue to the final stage!

STAGE 4-

  1. On EVERY alt you have, do ONE Heroic “Dawn of the Infinite" dungeon and get guaranteed 4 splintered sparks of awakening. The drops for Splintered Sparks of Awakening resets every week on Tuesday morning.
  2. Try to do 4 heroic dungeons EVERY week. When you get Great Vault rewards, choose the tokens instead of gear. Then, exchange the tokens for Flight Stones to combine your 4 Splintered Sparks of Awakening into 2 Sparks of Awakening.
  3. If you don’t have access to Great vault rewards one week, gather flightstones through questing, world quests, or by doing heroic dungeons.

By spamming dungeons and accruing the 4 dungeon Great Vault reward, you can forego the loot option and just choose 4 tokens. Then spend these tokens on flightstones. This frees up your time from grinding flightstones and allows you to craft 2 ilvl 502 gear pieces (or one two handed weapon) per week with the Dawn of the Infinite splintered sparks of awakening guaranteed weekly drop from Dawn of the Infinite dungeon.

And that’s that! If you followed all the stages you should have a decently leveled alt for all your alts! You should have: 4 piece tier set, gear at least 486 and each week that passes by an additional 2 502 ilvl gear pieces.

All of this without the need to do mythic+ dungeons OR paying someone gold to carry you through them.

Happy trails gearing your alts, Champions!

You don’t need to gear for the new expansion, though, I plan to take most of my alts in their ilvl 300ish gear into TWW and they’ll be able to level just fine.

Anything you spend time acquiring now will just be replaced in the first couple hours. It’s not worth it.

True. BUT if you plan on gathering immediately it helps to have toons higher ilvl so you can survive huge pulls AND kill mobs easily if you can’t escape aggro

Plus, it gives you something to do until TWW launches. Lol

Or get it for dream surge coalescense for free.

Yeah but you need decent gear to farm coalescence. This is intended for people who are starting from nothing, and maybe buy a WoW token to get things started for them!

Good contribution though, thanks!

Sorry. I thought the title said noob guide.

Let’s back up. Where does noob get the 120k gold?

Wouldn’t it be more noob friendly to farm up the Echoes event? No gold farming needed.

WoW token? If they can’t afford it they can skip to phase 2 lol.

That’s phase 3. You can do the phases in any order you want. Heroic dungeons you’re carried by group, Radiant Echoes you’re carried by the massive crowd.

HOWEVER… The Radiant Echoes farming only nets you ONE 493 drop per week. And if you spend all your Residual Memories currency on Radiant Echoes gear, you run out of currency before you can invest in 4 piece

Edit: Also, I said this was a moderate grinding strategy. If you feel the need to grind residual memories for hours be my guest! I just wanted to show some strategies to mix it up and provide higher ilvl gear than Radiant Echoes.

No you don’t. You can start doing dragon isles in gear sub 200. I know because I’ve done it.

Ok well I updated the guide to reflect that. Thank you for your feedback! <3

I think you mean well here, but this guide is way too convoluted and wastes way way too much time. The most efficient way to gear up if you leveled through the event is the following:

Kill event boss, get 493 item. Once you hit 70 go to Valdrakken, pick up Aiding the accord Zaralak Caverns. Look at the time, do either Protect the Researchers or Complete a time rift. In between loot the secured shipment (just wait and tag the Forgemaster 3 times, people are doing this all the time) loot 3 keys. Once done go kill the DF overland WB, then go and do whichever one is next (Protect or Time rift). Kill the Zaralak Caverns WB. Turn in Aiding the accord (get 493 piece and 2 Bronze bullion). Port to Emerald Dream, grab all 3 weekly quests. Go kill ED world boss and do all 3 quests. (you may have to wait for the superbloom, if so, go do something else and come back) If Soup or Siege are coming up go do them. Go do a hunt, they are always up. Also, the weekly quest for the dream surge will give you a loot box.

This will yield a ton of loot:
2x 493 pieces
3 WB: a combination of 3 loot boxes with 480-489 gear and/or 499 drops
6 Weekly quests: 6 loot boxes with 480-489 pieces
3 exta weekly quests: 3 loot boxes with 480-489 pieces
Dreamsurge; 1 loot box with 480-489

All the loot boxes drop crests and flightstones.

You should now be fairly well geared with some pieces missing. Use your 2 bronze bullion to buy either you BIS weapon or BIS trinket. Spend your event currency to fill in the slots.

The character I posted this reply on was leveled up through the event. 1:25 hours played time at lvl 70. After filling in with event drops and purchases I have 42k left over Residual memories

I didn’t really play Season 4 much at all. All the characters that I plan to play in TWW were already in 480+ gear from what little I played before Remix.

I did the pre-expansion event and collected the appearances for all four armor types and have a bunch of gear in my warbank still. I am sure any future alts will be fine. I guess I could buy a complete set of dreamsurge tokens just to be sure.

Thanks OP

You are absolutely right. Well at least we now have two paths to gearing and all players viewing this can decide which is right for them!

I just fly around and get the coalescence for the basic 454 ilvl starter gear. It doesn’t take long and it’s really relaxing.
A very zen thing to do.
Some would think it’s boring though but you don’t really need that many. Each piece is 100 coalescence, I’ve flown around and gathered 800 coalescence in about 2 hours.
Don’t forget to get the plants. Also some/all world quests give coalescence too.

Bowsanhoes, what you posted is good for those who want the tier sets.
So ty for that. Very thoughtful of you to share this info. Be well.
