I would like to raid a few days a week. I don’t want to be forced to power level, but I also don’t want to wait for 40 people who never log on to get ready to raid.
Can some veterans give me advice on how to find a good guild? For example, should I avoid joining guilds that PST me or spam trade? Do I need to go to a forum to find one?
It’s honestly a guessing game. A lot of guilds start out good but end up bad and vise versa. I would honestly say just wait for the first week of classic release to pass then see how things go with guilds. You can always guild hop if the guild you are currently in doesn’t feel like it progress.
Once servers are established, you’ll start to see guilds that you can tell are progressing through raid content. A lot of members present in the areas where proper content is, people in those guilds wearing raid gear, people doing well in dungeon PUGs. Feel free to talk to those people and ask them how their guild is structured and if they’re recruiting.
You can start looking now and find something that matches your goals. There is a discord dedicated to guild recruitment for Classic. Hope you find what you are looking for.
I have similar concerns. I don’t want a guild breathing down my neck to rush to 60. I want to enjoy the leveling process.
My plan is to wait until after I hit 60, or potentially meet people on the way to 60. Feel things out on the server, and see what fits. I don’t like the idea of rushing into a guild now and committing, before the servers are even live.
Rest assured that good players can always find a good guild. You’ll be in demand if that’s the case, even if your class is common, etc.
Don’t try to hit a home run right at the start of Classic and find that one good guild you stick with throughout. There’s likely going to be a lot of guilds that disband and/or reform over time for any number of reasons.
It all starts with leadership and the guild leader, the second they start becoming a rare sight in game, that’s usually an early indicator the guild is about to undergo a lot of changes. This can happen for a lot of reasons, particularly after becoming weary of the constant herding of cats for the raid.
Similarly, be wary of any day 1/release guilds, I’d expect a good portion of those to fall apart at some point because of the level grind, the fact that few people feel loyalty to that guild at level 27, priorities changing, etc.
The best guild is the one that is a right fit for you in terms of activity, participation, raiding times, personalities, etc. and you really won’t know for certain until you’ve joined. I switched guilds several times back then before I found the right one, and I’d say expect to do the same.
Aren’t goods guilds pretty competitive for slots though? My experience with my guild in retail is that I had to spend a lot of time doing their weekly gearing runs before I was able to join the progression team. Seems like I’ll be stuck if I fall too far behind.
Guilds in it for the long haul will have a fluid roster/bench, and if they’re doing really well, running multiple raids a week. If there’s a dedicated player who needs a bunch of items from a raid, it’s in the guild’s best interest long term to sit players from the same class who may only need 1 item from the raid.
I’d say that in my experience, finding a raid spot is 90% dedication. Getting your prebis, showing up on time/consumed, not missing raids, and playing hard on raid nights. If you can do that, you’ll find a consistent spot.
It’s where the people doing Mythic run people through normal and heroic to gear them to to do progression. It’s basically free gear runs for new guild members and alts.
