Noob questions on DH tanking rotation

Hi all, looking at the spirit bomb build, we have a ton of abilities but I’m confused on priority. Looking at Icy Veins rotation, here are my questions:

  1. It lists Fel Devastation on pull, then spirit bomb. But chances are you won’t have enough fury for Fel, and 4+ souls for spirit bomb are low. Why is this recommended?
  2. Immolation 4th in rotation? Seems like that should be more of a priority for getting aggro on packs.
  3. Where does Sigil of Flame land in the rotation… is it used, or just filler if nothing is up?
  4. Are we sill weaving on Demon Spikes and Fiery brand in the rotation, or do we save for defensive cooldown?
  5. If Kyrian, do we use Elysian Decree on every trash pack, or save for big pulls?

There just seems to be so many abilities, I wasn’t sure if they were all regularly used or not. Thanks in advance, having fun tanking but need some help!

Never, ever take info from Icy Veins

I dont know about the VDH rotation, but I can tell you its not what Icy Veins says

I use this build. Don’t really like Spirit bomb.
I would think for higher m+ keys your talents would look something like these:

Awesome, can you talk about what rotations/priority you would use with those talents?

I don’t look at tanking as a rotation cause that’s not how tanking works to an extent.

I use the fiery brand build which pumps out a lot more defensiveness with a 40% dr spread.

There’s some things I will do which depends on positioning meaning I might open with leap then digit of silence
Or leap into immolation aura.

I keep fel devastation for if I truly need it as well as meta. It’s more a feelings job for me how hard am I being hit
Do I need to move soon ect.

Meta I might pop at the end of a boss fight just for the extra dps or if people are going down and dying a bit to take pressure off the healer. Or just to try and solo the last 1-2%

I use fracture on cd then pop fel on large packs. I use the 20 percent chance it doesn’t reset leggo which I find helps defensively by a lot. But fracture is on demand pain and orbs. I use spirit bomb usually with 4 stacks and with aoe 3+. Otherwise cleave while keeping enough if fel d is coming.

Immo on pull. Again ondemand pain and our strongest aoe conduit is tied to immo aura. Should use on cd practically.

Sigil of flame only with 3+ targets. It hits for crap on single, basically a waste of a gcd.

I save demon spikes for large burst aoe outside fel windows. I use fiery brand too spread and then queue up spikes for when fel comes off. Its really a feeling though.

An example is the big packs on Mists, I pop demon and jump in. On another pack I might hold demon for a few rounds because I know I won’t get one shorted.

Current rotation.

Hit ‘ESC Key’
Exit Game
Blizz Launcher
Uninstall WOW.

I go with 1-2-3-3-2-2-2 for my build. It’s good all-around, whether you’re questing or group tanking. I don’t know how it works in pvp because I hate pvp.

Open up with Elysian Decree (if you have it - I recommend it), then use immo aura, sigil of flame, spirit bomb (with 4+ souls), soul cleave, and fracture if you have less than 4 souls and aren’t fury capped. I save fel devastation for emergencies or when quick aoe is needed (ie, all other aoes are on cd on a big pull.)
