Im leveling as fury but use prot as back up against tough opponents. My 1h sword and shield are both ilev 99. Ihave been maximizing my 2h swords ilev so far. (120s something} Next time I get a chance at higher ilev prot gear what should I get 1st: sword or a shield? tnx
Your best option while leveling is probably just to stick to either prot or fury. If youre having trouble with an elite, group up. Your stats will be all over the place and the gear you get should probably be best focused toward one spec instead of 2. Just my take though.
Id go the other way. swap as you see fit especially if you have the shield to do it with. as far as your original question. go with whatever gives you the better upgrade. always. Weapon upgrades will almost always upgrade your attack speed so you always want to take those over your shield. just think of your shield as extra stats. Even a base shield would work the same as a magic shield minus the added stats it gives you. still blocks the same

Are you high? No, shields are not bloody stat sticks for warriors. Shield is your main source for block, which is one of the most important stat for prot, especially since you can’t maintain a high uptime on shield block at the moment.

well, yes I am lol… but that doesnt change what I said. having a higher Ilvl shield does not up its block chance. if you look at the shield it doesnt have a block chance amount as one of the stats like attack on weapons. this is why you always upgrade weapon first. as I said before besides the stats on the shield it works the same as a white or even grey shield
So, shield’s do actually have a block stat. And yes, it does not increase the block chance.
That’s why shield block is 100%. The block stat increases the block value when you do block.

I was trying not to make the topic complicated lol. of course I know there is a static block chance on shields. but to try and explain that while explaining how upgrading your shield is merely about its stats I felt would confuse the convo more lol

Shield has the block stat, which affects the block chance and is one of the most important stat for a prot warr. Higher ilvl shields have a higher block stat, thus more block chance. That’s why you upgrade your SHIELD first.
And I’m telling you that’s wrong, because the block stat affect your block chance, which means a white shield will block less often than a green one.
show me where this is correct. cuz I dont think you are correct here. otherwise like weapons why wouldnt it be displayed? like is their a site I can go to where I can compare shields blocks stat?
Sorry, I misspoke about one thing. Drez is correct, block doesn’t affect the block chance, it affects the block amount. Regardless, a better shield will block more damage, which makes it a higher priority than a weapon.

not inherently, its all based on stats. for instance if a shield doesnt have better stats then one im currently wearing it wont automatically be better. there is no behind the scenes block stat you are referring too. and if there is like you said. prove it to me. shouldnt be that hard. like I said if they have this behind the scenes block stat priority im sure some tank site out there has a tier list or a BIS block stat list

and now you have lost all credibility with me. that is most definitely not the case. and hasnt been the case for any gear (besides maybe weapons) on any class since they introduced secondary stats
