Noob - Help W/ Warrior Build (Duo Leveling)

Hey yall,

I am pretty much brand new to WoW and after trying retail, found that classic was much more enjoyable to me. I started playing a mage and got to level 15 or so before my wife decided she wanted to join me. So I rerolled as a Warrior and she is a Priest. We have really been enjoying playing together and both like our classes a lot.

My question is as we start to become higher levels and do dungeons (I want to Tank and she wants to Heal), what should I be focusing my talents to? Arms, Fury, or Prot? I see online most people recommend leveling as Arms or Fury, but given that she heals me I have been going Prot… Is this a mistake? Basically I try to tank everything while she attacks them with spells and wand, while healing me. It has been working pretty well so far but we recently have been overwhelmed a few times and I am wondering if I am not putting out enough damage? (I dont want to pay the 1g to re-spec if I dont have to)

Maybe I am overthinking all this… I just want our experience to be enjoyable as this is the first game she has ever actually enjoyed playing with me and I don’t want her to get discouraged by the deaths. We are completely brand new and not trying to rush anything, just enjoy and explore the game at our own pace!

Thank you for your time

Hello! When i leveled i leveled with a shaman and what we did til around 50ish was i leveled as a prot warrior and he leveled with a few points into resto and other into elemental for the dmg. I think wiht the priest u could do the exact same thing. Having heals and a tank for a group is HUGE when making groups making it a ton easier.

The priest can go into disc til u get the improved shield maxed then go into shadow. The healing will be fine and that imp shield takes alot to break. Right now i have a 31 priest and most of the time all im doing is shielding and renewing. healing is pretty easy thus far and ive found myself looking at going into shadow for dmg outside of dungeons.

So, to sum up, prot warrior til around 50ish when u know what u want to do late game so a 1g respec is nothing for an endgame respec. same with priest as around 50 is where u will figure out what you want to be MAIN wise and when u would respec. GOOD LUCK !!!

There’s a decent amount of information out there. Some of it is rather objective, some of it is incredibly subjective. As you become more and more familiar with warrior talent trees, and how the talents map to in-game functionality, you will no doubt find your own preferences that match your playstyle.

If you look at the Protection tree, you’ll probably notice that a lot of it has to do with mitigating damage: Shield Specialization, Improved Shield Block, Anticipation, Toughness, etc.

A lot of the Fury tree is improving damage: Cruelty (adding crit chance), Enrage (+melee damage), etc.

And the Arms tree has a lot of utility: Tactical Mastery (keep some rage when switching stances), Sweeping Strikes (hit an additional target), etc.

You have access to all trees, but are limited by the number of talent points you have, to a maximum of 51 at level 60. And, as a warrior, you have access to all warrior skills, other than those that require being learned through talent points.

A lot of warriors don’t equip a shield a lot of the time when they are tanking, as physical damage mitigation isn’t as high of a priority as keeping a high amount of threat on mobs as possible; it’s easy enough for a healer to keep up the tank if its maintaining aggro.

So, depending on you and your wife’s playstyle and preference, you may find that you prefer smashing things with a two hander, dual wielding or using a shield and sword, and you may find that some of the talents in some of the trees are better suited to supporting that preference.

Elite’s Classic Warrior Tanking Guide is a great starting point, imo, for tanking instances in Classic.
