I really like the play style of Brewmaster monks, but have a hard time going back to play mine since I’ve gone sober. Pretending to chug alcohol in a game while I have made a decision to cut it out of my real life as a whole, makes the spec a bit revolting to me. I wanted to voice my opinion for an NA option for Brewmaster. It probably sounds silly, but a tea master, or something of the sort, is something I am genuinely interested in.
I’d like to finish this post by saying, I do not wish to change the theme of the spec especially for those that like it the way it is. I only want the option to change it for myself and others like me.
Nothing in any of the spell/talent descriptions I see say anything about it being alcohol of any kind. “Brews” is what it is referred as. Tea infused with the magic of Niuzao the Celestial Ox is the only thing I can find. Ever had Kombucha Tea? Just think of it as that. Beer isnt a traditional asian spirit anyway, so just take it as a strong Chai or Kombucha.
Real Kombucha is actually alcoholic. The bubbles in it come from fermentation of the alcohol. Even the stuff you buy over the counter (as long as it is real) is 1-5% alcohol… so a weak beer.
I see what you are saying but so is real bread. All I was trying to imply is that it doesnt really ever say alcohol, and I dont think any culture considers Kombucha Teas a an alcoholic beverage.
You laugh a bit but it always turned my off the entire brewmaster spec. a human belcing fire is just not natural ( and I know it’s in a world of magic and high fantasy, but I would be totally ok if breath of fire was supposed to be chi powered, but pretending you can do that by chugging beer ? Beer isn’t even flammable )
I know being an alcoholic is hard, but are these posts really necessary? Just don’t play it or pretend it’s something else. Don’t ruin it for everyone else. Also I have friends who are alcoholics and this sort of thing wouldn’t even register on their minds as serious.
