PvP is such a minor part of WoW, yet easily the most discussed part on the forums. Mostly just complaints about how the other side has an advantage that needs to be addressed before the entire game implodes. Let’s face facts though. If there were no PvP at all, WoW would still be great. Let’s focus on what we like about it and be grateful.
If you still feel the need to vent your frustrations there are literally dozens of PvP complaint threads to choose from. This one is about what they’ve done that you like…
There’s another interesting thing to consider about PvP, I think. Most (if not all) of the problems related to PvP that people are discussing on the forums are either easily resolved by the individual now (play the other faction, play on a pve server), or are resolved in BC, and Retail (Arenas).
The phrase “address these issues” is baloney. It means “Blizzard should obey ME, and other people that agree with ME”. If YOU dislike anything, then it’s a “problem” and must be “fixed”. Why? Because YOU want it.
People have lots of words they use in the forums, but the bottom line is that forum people expect Blizzard to obey them, and Blizzard doesn’t. That is BS, even in retail WoW (where things can CHANGE to improve the game).
It is double-BS in Classic, which is a copy of an old game. If you promise players that something is an (imperfect) copy, you can’t CHANGE it without breaking your promise. What Blizzard is doing by “not addressing issues” is keeping their promise to millions of players.
I think most PVP players recognize this. The forum-writers constantly demanding changes are a tiny fraction of the players: just noise.
I’m grateful P2 was the unholy bloodbath that it was, and my only regret is that it didn’t last until Valentine’s Day, and take a few more PvP servers down with it like Flamelash-EU.
Obviously, that isn’t true in the context of classic/vanilla. PVP was/is a major part of endgame for a great many level 60 players. Yes I know the story about how PVP wasn’t originally planned to be in the game. That’s an irrelevant point, because PVP did wind up in the game.
Hey, I’m mostly happy. I’ve had a great time in Classic. All I wanted was the beautiful old world and all the old quests back, and to be able to live in it.
Says who? You? I can guarantee you there are more players queuing up for battle grounds then they’re are looking for dungeon groups.
The endgame is all about PVP and Raiding. You can’t raid 24/7 and you can’t raid solo. PVP is the only endgame content you can do 24/7 and is a big part of WoW…
You sound upset that I said that there are issues and I’m trying to make the team at Blizzard aware. The current experience isn’t true to the vanilla experience, plenty of things have changed in classic. Stop being a contrarian on your level 40 and go level. Maybe you’ll actually understand these issues if you experience them first hand in the 50+ range.
World PVP in vanilla was more genuine. There wasn’t a vanilla census website to warn factions if they could utilize a free transfer due to bad queue times to another server. That didn’t exist in vanilla. There weren’t hundreds of ranking horde or alliance storming through max level zones, ones looking to grind honor in P2. It was horde vs alliance when I played and this was after battle grounds came out. There would be mini skirmishes if a guild alt got ganked. Now my server imparticular is 80% horde and 20% alliance so I’ll never see that experience again.
I actually change my stance:
My favorite part are players who are deadset on numbers being the same rather than the actual experience of the game being true to vanilla.
All the issues people are complaining about are player created which is simply because we’re different people now than we were 15 years ago. Expecting the experience to be the same was always an unrealistic expectation.
But people wanted to just chant #nochanges instead of focusing on how good the experience could be. So now we have the same mechanics for a lot of things but a worse actual experience.
Agreed. Hopefully blizzard will do something about it but I have a feeling I’ll be on a PVP, (Horde PVE) server for a while now. Given Blizzards track record with classic wow.
