pvp = dead b/c nobody wants to heal que times 30+ minutes solo q / 99% dps players in lfg
timewalking/random dung/m+ = dead b/c nobody wants to heal que times are awful
Returning friend comes back to wow, plays healer, quits within a month because it’s not fun at all. Tries to play dps quits because of q times. Every single friend same story.
Why?
No agency to carry (only lose slower), lower average rating than dps (pvp), more responsibility with literally less rewards.
Can’t even pve/farm/delve without needing a second set of gear/second char/learning a second spec (trivial for some but for casuals they don’t want to deal with it)
Above all it’s just not even remotely fun. Healing being awful will be and is the death of wow in all modes. The only place this (might) not apply is raiding. But all other content nobody wants to play healer. And as someone who got 2.5-2.6 on multiple healers last xpac in pvp, I don’t want to heal anymore either. There’s nothing fun about it.
It’s not an anecdote. Que times are 30+ minutes in every single form of content because nobody wants to play healer. It has nothing to do with my opinion.
I can see why a new player would have problems, especially in healing. This game’s new player experience isn’t exactly award winning stuff. The default controls are also quite bad and almost certainly hurt healers more than any other role.
Nah I should edit that. It’s not new players to wow. I mean a different friend returns to the game that has played 10+ years, glad+ xp, and has me holding their hand putting together their ui… still quits healing in a month. Tries dps q times are awful quits that too.
It’s not just pvp with this problem either. I q tank/healer in timewalking/random dung when I can because I know q times are really long. It’s awful when I have to do anything on my pure dps classes. I know M+ lfg is nothing but dps waiting around doing nothing but I’m not going to tank or heal that because I’m not forced to as a pvp player.
I would definitely say that healing high-level content is as bad or worse than it’s ever been. it’s seemingly part of an unstoppable shift away from a role that used to involve a lot of strategy to one that is now mostly about frantically casting spells as fast as you can while dancing around one-shot dungeon mechanics. This is one area where E-Sports is definitely tainting the game.
I agree that the only place where healing is still somewhat fun is raiding. I still heal because it’s what I’ve been doing for 20 years and that probably makes it a bit easier for me to ride out the mistakes that the developers make. It’s totally understandable though, why a new or returning healer would be turned off quickly by the state of the role.
You lost me a bit on this part. I literally never switch out of resto spec and it doesn’t prevent me from doing anything in this game. Sometimes stuff takes longer, but there are also a lot of perks to being able to heal yourself, so as long as you’re not in a huge rush all the time it mostly balances out.
What? All you do is sit in solo que and you are worse than me by every possible metric. When you try to play 3’s you have a 40% win rate at 1200 mmr.
What exactly is the skill issue?

so you like wasting your time on top of all the other downsides of playing healer ok good for you. It doesn’t balance out at all unless you don’t know how to play the game. You can kill 10x faster on dps. Not just twice as fast. Even just collecting dirt piles for profession weeklies on healer is a slog with BIS pvp gear upgraded all the way. Not that it matters to me to switch to the dps spec. But saying it’s not a waste of time doing it as healer spec is lying.
I enjoy healing and tanking, but I highly dislike DPS.
I will say that healing in this game, without addons, is rough. You pretty much need them to be effective at any level above normal dungeons. What other role requires addons to just play their role?!
There doesn’t need to be a change in overworld content to accomodate healers. You can literally go through it with the worst stat gear you can find, grab a strength or agi weapon, and beat stuff down without knowing anything about the dps spec.
“Oh this does damage? lets use that! Oh this does even more damage? Cool use that too” How casual does one have to be to not know that generally hitting stuff makes that stuff not alive?>
Did you got triggered that much and went to sniff my profile? lmao
But seeing the numbers, even with my 40% im still higher rated you in 3x3 just doing a bit fun with casual friends without gear, and in my warlock and im better than you in blittz, so not every metric, sorry.
Maybe is that attitude of yours that is the issue, prob a FOTM guy in his hpal, so what are you whining for again?
When you are 630+, quest mobs die plenty fast even when you are casting DPS spells as resto. There are also plenty of opportunities, in both quests and delves, where a healer can round-up a LOT of mobs, and simply dot them up while keeping themselves healed, and everything dies quick enough.
But it doesn’t sound like you are really interested in having a conversation, as despite the fact that I mostly agreed with your post, my tiny side comment somehow inspired an angsty emo rant from you. I’ll leave you to your tissues now.
I’m higher rated than you on demo too buddy. I’m higher rated than you on about 15 different specs but I’ll just assume you are on a new account and you got banned for mouthing off to healers in shuffle.
wow so irrelevant questing content is easy when you have fully upgraded hero gear thanks for posting buddy
imagine actually arguing it’s not a waste of time clearing a +8 delve as resto druid instead of going boomkin
Dunno man, it shows you are at 1418, and im at a 1954, and im a just a casual scrub doing ranked for the first time
Sure
i mean, you can assume whatever you want, but since you were sniffing my profile, you could see i have achievements from 2012, not a vanilla player but im not that new
Seems like you would be the one who get banned for trolling and trashtalking though, seeing how much you are getting triggered by so little
Never got a ban, or a silence ingame, in 12 year of playing
Edit: i saw what you wrote before you erased, you are THAT mad aren’t you?
Oh yeah you learn demo lock in 50 games the first time you ever play it huh? When it took you 400 games played to get 1800 as warrior? It’s funny you don’t even know how to check peoples profile you are looking at the armory.
12 years of playing but only active this season and the last time you played was bfa s2 but it’s your only account huh. Okay buddy whatever you say. Too bad you don’t know how to look at my profile. Imagine mouthing off as this kid as a 1800 warrior and 1900 demo lock and doesn’t even know how to check my account. You 100% got banned for talking trash to healers in shuffle.
as a tank and someone who plays three different kinds of tanks, I always have healers thanking me at the end of the run because I didn’t just face pull through the whole place and overload them. I like to check in with my healer and make sure they are doing OK and never lose line of sight because it makes them panic and stresses them out.
I may not be a healer, but I talked to them enough that I know what’s going on in their heads and I don’t wanna be the reason they have a bad experience. There’s a shortage of healers is because of the same reason there is a shortage of tanks . All of the good ones have given up doing open pugging content because too many Rando’s are just ruining the experience.
This is why I now only tank for my friends and my guild. Sadly, the players doing their own thing rather than checking on their team and being a part of something went in solo and came out solo , and just didn’t care during the run. because they were in a huge hurry.
