I’ve had this problem for a week now. I’ve done the basic trouble shooting and even some others that were suggested by the GM’s. The first time I uninstalled/reinstalled the game itself and that did the trick for one game session. When I logged back on later, the sound was out once again. The gameplay runs just fine no issue, there is just no sound…
Next, as suggested by a GM, I uninstalled Microsoft Teams from my Mac Mini, rebooted and logged back into WoW. This did the trick! Or so I was fooled. After another game session with the sound working finally, while in flight to a different location in the game, the sound goes out just before landing at final destination. Crazy! I’m not sure what the problem could be. Sad part is I just got back into playing WoW and this starts happening. I’m kinda disappointed and put off from trying to play anymore if this sound issue persist.
I have the same issue, but on a Windows PC and when looking for posts, this came up. The game has sound, then a random pause (usually in M+), and suddenly, no sound. The PC still has sound; for example, Discord is working fine.
If I go to settings, sounds, I will see “No Sound Driver.” If I click “No Sound Driver,” all options reappear, and my Logitech speakers work again. This might work for you. I have found some old bug reports. It’s annoying but okay as a workaround for me. Worth a try?
I have this issue as well but I don’t have and haven’t had Teams installed. I’ve tried Blizzard Support but I just get troubleshooting steps for Windows from them.
If I connect my AirPods, I can hear game audio. If I keep my AirPods in my ears, I can also select other devices and have audio come through any of those selected ones but as soon as I take my AirPods out of my ears, the game goes back to no sound. This happens in Classic as well. This issue isn’t present in any other game though.
Try “control-s” as this will disable in game sounds by default.
Been going back and forth for days with Blizzard support to no avail. One of the responses I get mentioned several forums posts and this one in particular gave me the idea.
OP says, " If I connect a device with a microphone to Bluetooth or the headphone jack, after restarting WoW, I:
- hear sound
- can see all audio devices and can select them.
on all versions of the game I have installed (WotLK Classic, Dragonflight Beta, Wow Shadowlands Retail), even if the “microphone device” is not the selected sound output."
So I figured let me try something. I connected a cheap webcam with built-in mic and BAM sound. The mic doesn’t even need to be selected or on.
