No Silence & Shadow Mend - Why?

Why did they decide to do this?

Idk but it’s a pretty big nerf. Shadow gets a buff out of it though considering we can now get kicked and still heal.

You can find their word salad reply on the reasons “why” in a past notes. We have a team of scholars still tyring to sort it out.

You get access to better healing spells. But the silence part is a mystery.

Not realy. Flash heal heals for nothing.

I would also like to point out that in this loud uproar about disc and holy not having interrupt we kinda forgot about one of the big reasosns shadow is dogno in dungeons…and thats the fact that we have by far the worst interrupt in the game…even moonkins got skull bash. With 45s silence we are just not suited for any kick rotation and except priests even every single healer in the game is better at kicking…and so far DF dungeons require a lot of interrupts.

Realistically this hasn’t ever really been an issue. It’s an inconvenience, but as long as damage is good + twins, we won’t be excluded from groups because of a long interrupt.

And now that healers have kicks it will be even less of an issue

Realisticaly this have been a big issue since the intorduction of m+ format.

Spriest has historically since the beginning of BFA been the overall 3rd best ranged spec. Their silence has never been an issue

Wowhead talent calculator shows silence as being one of the early talents in the shadow tree. Where does it say shadow priests no longer have it?

I think the original post refers to discipline, not shadow, which is one of two specs not to receive a talentable interrupt in their class tree.

As for shadow, we still have silence but it being in the spec tree means it somewhat stretches our talent budget between damage and utility. It’s gotten better in more recent iterations but it’s still disappointing to have to deal with.

This. Basically having to choose between damage and our defensive or kick is brutal.

Only because now it’s mandatory to spend points on it to move down in the tree.

From your other comments I’m guessing you specifically mean in m+/PvE:

This requires Balance to budget a large amount of talent points that are otherwise of little use, and it’s a kick that takes multiple GCD’s (cat or bear whichever is ideal for situation + Skull Bash = 1 GCD > re-entering moonkin form = 2 GCD) not to mention this will force a change in positioning (on the other hand, it’s essentially another movement ability but also GCD heavy).

This makes Skull Bash on Balance very inefficient, you will want to go through every other interrupt in the group (at which point others will be back off cooldown) before telling someone to blow 2 GCDs on something that could be OGCD for everyone else, even if they’re willing to pass up whatever else doesn’t require that hefty 4 to 5 point investment to reach Skull Bash.

This is even less of a problem now.

The fact that many other healers are getting kicks that are easily talentable as with most other DPS (such as Rebuke on hpal in an already ideal pathing), means they can be relied on for kicks before yours.

This worry is basically one big oxymoron. Them having more =/= you are more stressed now, you are less stressed in this situation.

It isn’t a kicking competition. It’s, meet the kicks.

It would be more of a concern for Holy/Disc since it’s something they’re just not getting as an option vs. other healers… but kicks will likely still be more than covered even then for any decent group.

Whoever says that having practicaly “no kick” isnt an issue propably havent been in DF dungeons yet or didnt try for the past 5 years to get into the groups as shadow. It is a big issue but its completely overshadowed by the fact that priest healers doesnt have the kick. Which you demonstrated two sentences later.

Everyone is focusing on that instead of the eternal call from Shadow priests that we want some form of talent that turns silence into regular kick without the blanket effect on 20s cd.

If they keep designing bosses and trash like for example Medivh or second boss in Shrine of the storm…(which they do btw…just check some dungeons on beta) then bringing shadow is just an handicap on top of poor damage and no utility…you know all the stuff that kept sp from beign meta since legion s1.

The issue is that almost all healers getting kick isnt a sign of easier time in dungeons and having some wiggle space to take classes that are bad at it, but more likely giving developers more freedom to design supid stuff like for example, again…Medivh.

I have beta and have been testing as shadow and disc and play around +25 most seasons. Shadow having a long kick is not an issue.

The only place that it could even be thought to be bad is azure vault on the lashers, but realistically they cast so often and there’s enough of them that layered aoe stops are going to be the way to play this anyway.

I have complained about button bloat for SP before. I have a bad feeling about NF talent trees. None of the classes I play are looking at improvements.

Agree. Please bring these back to base priest. At least one of them. Shadowmend for disc pvp was a great part of the spec. Being the only healer without an interrupt is also rough.

In PvP you still have plenty of defenses when locked out of holy. You have fear, void tendrils, mind control, mind games, and anything else I forgot.

And you can still cast Guardian Spirit when stunned even though it’s a holy spell.

Blizzard said that too many specializations had a silence and/or interrupt, so only Holy and Discipline would be the only specializations in the entire game to not have them.

Blizzard said Shadow Mend was causing button bloat, but that was not the case at all. They also wanted to screw over Discipline priests while also ruining Shadow class fantasy.

I don’t want to claim any specific motivation behind the way the priest trees are.

Unfortunately they are incoherent and we’re stuck with this for a while.

Any recommendations for another healer to play?
