I had a thought about something that could be a fun wrinkle for when the official hardcore servers come out, stemming from how the resurrection spells for paladins/priests are basically useless. What if your ‘hardcore journey’ only really ends when you release spirit from your corpse? That way if you end up dying there’s still a chance of redemption if there is someone nearby that is a buddy or you could offer to pay to resurrect you. This would add a reason to have the resurrection spells and create opportunities for new kinds of player interaction while also being fairly limited in scope and power due to the inherent 6 minute timer that starts ticking before you auto-release.
I haven’t thought overmuch about how this would apply to things like soulstones and reincarnation, though perhaps this kind of change would also add a sort of viability for those spells in a raiding scenario (and lessen the reliance on flasks of petrification)? Also I imagine it would be possible to make this sort of resurrection not available in a ‘duel to the death’ scenario.
What if we didn’t try to circumvent the one rule that makes Hardcore, Hardcore?

How much on my Mastercard will it cost for the boosted Paladin to DI the rezzer in each raid?
I’ll pay for your “WE GO AGANE” tattoo, OP.
How 'bout that?
Here’s the interaction you’ll get from me.
I’ll watch your time run out while emoting,

With an occasional F in say.
Until you’re properly dead, like you should be.
Enjoy!
All this would do is promote people keeping a rezzer out of combat, to assure they never die. People would raid with 39/40 in the raid, with a rezzer waiting just outside to come rez as need.

So this defats the purpose of hardcore, the one rule that makes it hardcore.

I had always assumed this would be the default, as this is simply the way the game was made. Not sure how payment would come into it, but resurrection and death prevention seems the default to me. Actually I guess there’s no timer that sends you back to the spirit healer? So really you could just wait forever and there would then arise a service that would resurrect anyone, invalidating the concept of hardcore. That makes sense.
Still, it seems a no-brainer to account for Soul Stones and Divine Intervention and such. That’s the whole point of those spells.
I truly do not understand this type of player.
If you want to play a version of wow where death is not relevant to your character then quite literally go play any other version of wow.
Maybe just don’t play hardcore if you want to resurrect.
