No point in Rated PVP for 10.0?

With the new PvP gearing system for Dragon Flight on the horizon I for see an issue with player motivation coming with it. For some people it may feel rewarding to hit a new mile stone in you Arena or RBG ranking and getting up grade your gear, then queuing up and watching your character hit and heal just a little bit better. While I do not totally dismiss or hate the proposed future gearing system I do fear that the carrot and the stick are if not being removed A lack intermittent reinforcement of can quickly lead the not for enthusiastic PvP players to a lack of incentive to push into the next rating bracket. My goal is to discuss how the experience of winning or even losing a match could be enhanced through other means like cosmetics and UI design.

Id like to hear what everyone ideas on the topic might be.

My proposal:
Change the damn end of match score board! This thing is so outdated, it is a color coated excel sheet that doesn’t do much in the way of exciting anyone. Let see a Overwatch style meter in the sent that ticks or down with your win or lose or rating. This new display of your rating will be within a seasonal emblem/logo. This Seasonal emblem/logo will get more flashy looking for each increase in rating bracket. Under the emblem there will be a line if text that states which bracket you are in i.e Challenger, Rival, Duelist. No top of this lets award the player with a tabard that has this emblem on it. As the player progresses in rank the players tabard emblem will correspond with the players highest achieved rank for that season. I would like to see a signifier for if the tabard was earned in 2s 3s or RBGs.
Lets also gets some more stats on the scoreboard like numbers of interrupts, CC’s and so on.
As recommended by some people I have made some edits to this in attempt to clarify my position

Don’t mind the gear

would be cool if they swapped rating to % based instead
and more cosmetic rewards like unique titles tied to that toon , example , cant put the title to every toon you have ,m

same thing for mounts should be toon unique

Can’t have an mmo without progression

The gear increasing in power with rating wasn’t done as well as it could’ve been.

As for incentives just have more cosmetic stuff, yeah, then keep the game accessible/fun.

If arenas were fun, more people would play them.

You’re still getting upgrades in PvE though, I thought. People who only care about PvP will probably be motivated to do rated PvP anyway. People who are mostly into PvE but also casually interested in PvP will be much more motivated to do rated PvP under the new system probably

How about playing the game for the sake of enjoying the actual gameplay and not being a slave to some masochistic hamster wheel for gear upgrades that only creates imbalance, incentivizes boosts and scares new/casual players away from pvp

Complete opposite, pvers aren’t venturing into arenas if there’s no gear progression involved, there’s needs to be an incentive to pvp. Cosmetics and epeen rating aren’t going to cut it.

Cosmetics and titles are not enough for you? Don’t get me wrong, I get the joy of upgrading your gear and becoming stronger. But it does suck when you are ping ponging around 1770 and 1799 and you keep playing against players that have a gear advantage against you. Seems like an unnecessary advantage for that team. If team A is rated 1780 and team B is rated 1880, when team B is theoretically better based off out ratting discrepancy why does team B also need a concrete statistical advantage?

The main incentive behind pvp isn’t gear. Its being better than everyone else and having fun; then you get a cool mount/title at the end. If you have an other motivations, you should probably rethink why you’re even playing in the first place :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

How is upgrading your gear any different than a cosmetic or title?

It’s legit a reward for hitting a marker that’s it. Gear upgrades are a bad reward that only hurt and annoy the process and ladder.

Cosmetic is always a better option in pvp.

NGL I totally agree with this, the fun doesn’t come from having to spend 8k honor to upgrade 1 piece 3 ilvl, it is from seeing how high you can get in rating and yes, finding out how many people you are better than.

i completely agree with this.
i have seen the main advocates of the gear powergap are usualy the people who are very competent at pvp specifically arena.
I can understand why they want the powergap to exist because not only does it make them stand out and feel stronger, but in some cases they make a living off it (streamers etc)

For more general participation we need to make pvp more enjoyable and accessible (for new players)

Cosmetics are a perfect way to make elite players stand out for regular players.
we have seen that model work within over pvp games and it seems to do really well.

I agree that there is still a motivation to push rating for the avid PVPer ( people forgive my salacious post title)

My point is that there is a lack of flourish associated with an increase of that rank even with the gear upgrading. People want that add dopamine rush that they get when there is some added fanfare.

I’m just saying I strictly pved up until about now and the only thing that brought me to arenas was getting the badge on fire mage in nya and CN. PvPers are going to pvp regardless but if you don’t have an incentive or meaningful progression don’t expect to see an uptick in participation. This idea that gear scares away “new players” is hilarious gearing right now is about as brain dead easy as it gets, but victims will be victims and they will find a new excuse after templates.

this is an unhealthy way to think about game design

It’s pretty cooked to imply that >20ilvl gear differences in conquest gear doesn’t turn people off from pvp
Not to mention the fact that it incentivizes a boosting environment which again turns more ppl off from pvp

All the popular games do it much better than wow.

All the current iteration is, is capitalism. Prove me wrong. Rich man gets richer, poor man gets poorer.

Full honor/base conquest gear puts you at ab the same pvp ilvl as 99% of other pvpers at the 0-1600 bracket…….
