"No one escapes the Maw"

Except us. And apparently anyone who tags along with us in our jetstream.

Now, you have the Jailer and all his forces on lockdown in the Maw and with, to date, only one way out - through a small stone that us Champions of Azeroth can touch to take us upstairs. And my question is - if the Maw is indeed in lockdown, how does the Jailer expect to undertake his ultimate plan and get outta there? (Yes, I’m presuming he does want out because he doesn’t seem to be able to take any direct action beyond the Maw - apart from making life a bit painful for Bolvar, who was actually poking his mind inside through the Helm, so that’s a bit different.) He seems more inclined to use agents, paid lackeys and dupes. Yes Denathrius, looking at you, handsome.

Obviously escape and/or direct intervention hinges on just what that portal is, and if it can be expanded to allow large forces to travel through it. And what our part might be in permitting that. Either that, or he figures out what it is about US that makes travel outside the Maw possible. I mean, Jaina couldn’t do it, Anduin couldn’t activate it, presumably none of the other powerful figures around there could work it either. Just little old us.

He hasn’t seemed all that interested in capturing us - if we spend too much time in Maw he sends troops out to kill us but that doesn’t last long. So at this point it doesn’t seem that we are important to him. And no move has yet taken place to capture or interrupt the operations of the portal. I say ‘yet’ of course.

So back to my original question: how does the Jailer expect to undertake his ultimate plan and get out of the Maw? Has there been any hint at all about that? I’ve not done a lot of higher content so I might have missed such hints and would love to hear some thoughts on his possible plan.

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition either, but we know how that works out.

I think his main plan is to flex his pecs menacingly until Sylvanas finds yet another way to ream us all again.

Lol yea it’s like Grand Central through there.

It’s pretty easy to get lost in the mall and there’s so many distractions. I can believe that few escape it.

Lackey: Sir, should we set up guard around the waystone?
Jailer: Yes. One guy on metal bear riding back and forth
Lackey: One… guy?
Jailer: Yes.

He’s gonna hijack Anduin and we’re going to smuggle him out probably.

That is the Jailer’s immediate problem. He can’t use the waystone, it’s an old relic he thought was just dead and useless until we arrived.

The Maw was sealed off by the Heart of the Forest, Tirna Achiad, the center tree of Ardenweald. Specifically the gigantic glowing seed thing in the night fae covenant hall. The Winter Queen sent us to Revendreth in the first place to petition Denathrius for anima to bolster the Heart so the Maw stays shut.

Kel’thuzad also attempted a ritual to break a path in the barrier using the anima Denathrius gathered, a kyrian sacrifice and a Maw relic. But that was ruined by us sabotaging it.

Most likely that was Plan A. Plan B I’d wager may shift to an attack on Ardenweald now because that’s the actual lock to the door. Still just speculation though, but I’d strongly bet on it.

Classic evil overlord.

Well he did manage to get a few of his minions into Azeroth to abduct the lore figures we ended up rescuing. So there’s precedent for SOME way for his forces to get out, at least temporarily.

My biggest question is what is his plan once he gets out? Conquer the universe? Slay all who oppose him? Try some Nogginfogger elixer? Go fishing?

In a raid, in Torghast. I wonder if we’ll have access to anima powers in the raid?

I escaped the maw because I didn’t go back.

I’ve watched a lot of t.v and movies in my life so if I had to guess what the plot will be I’d say he will attempt to corrupt the stone we use to let him go through and there will be a Siege of attack on Oribos. It won’t be a real siege mind you like the zombie invasion it’ll be a scenario event.

No one escapes the maw! guess that makes us nobodies.

lol

But anyways the guy looks like a dreadlord and those guys are super crafty. He will probably end up hijacking someone’s body or something crazy like that who can eventually escape the maw and we will have to beat him out of there.

Who knows really. It’s what I came up with, he wanted a strong enough soul to soulbind with or something.

That’s why he likes Anduin so much :smirk:

Yo Jailer maybe put the tarragrue and all your armies right in front of that portal where all those dudes are coming in and out and running into that suspicious cave right next to it where you can’t see them and all ur dream will come true.

No idea and we’ve already raided Torghast and smashed all his forces in every corridor/area unless there’s another castle somewhere? Guess he’s out of luck at this point.

Not only that, but even before we arrived, the center of Oribos has this giant hole leading to the maw that anyone could fall into since there’s not even a guard rail. The denizens of Oribos show a curious lack of concern about that.

Actually, that’s quite a clever idea. And a living mortal has the benefit of being not only able to wander around in the Shadowlands, but on Azeroth in the living world as well. So if he was soulbound to a mortal he could presumably travel through to Azeroth.

It’s like those old secret agent movies where the bad guy has the agent on a platform slowly lowering into a tank of acid or sharks. Bad guy assumes he’s won, se he leaves and assumes the agent dies. The Jailor has Anduin, who in his mind is his I-Win button, so nothing we do is of any consequence.

The Jailor turned out a lot more tropey than I think Activision intended.

I sat down and wrote a little fic about 450 words long last night, sort of a way of thinking through Anduin’s fate after the Sylvanas short and I figured she wouldn’t back off, not only from the silly logic of that plotwise but because I thought - so they made this gorgeous Shalamayne mourneblade and never use it? Naa, it’ll get used. So she forced him to take it and he basically had his mind overwhelmed - just like Alleria did in the Stormwind Vision where she is trying to convince her son about N’Zoth. “I’ll convince you, you have to believe me” sort of thing. I wrote that Anduin absolutely believed in the Jailer and Sylvanas’ plans - not because he would normally do that but because whatever power was put in the blade basically brainwashes him.

It was actually quite engaging to do that. To see him saying “I’ll save my people and help create this new afterlife order, they will have to listen to me, it’s for their own good” sort of thing. Creepy really. I dunno if they will do that sort of thing, but lordy, would it be interesting to watch if they did.

Oops I hope that wasn’t a spoiler, sorry if so…
