Well this character was getting some development in this patch. Which was probably suppose to address this issue. I mean Alliance morale is pretty low… everyone was complaining about Anduin for years.
Unfortunately they went this route.
The logic there probably was:
“Everyone loved Arthas right?”
“Ya, ya”
“Well let’s just make a mini Arthas!”
“Ya, ya”
I think it would’ve been neater to give Anduin his own type of story, something we haven’t had for a main character in this franchise. I would’ve leaned more towards him dipping into Shadow Priest some way or anoher. (I’ve met more than enough guys over the years that actually dug that spec.) Of course Anduin is strong enough to make a bounce back…instead they did a weird shout out to nostalgia.
(Which please leave Anduin alone for a bit after this expansion. He needs to backburn a bit.)
Anduin not being a rambo, has never bothered me. I believe there can be characters that don’t need to be roided out rage to be strong.
Look to Tyrande, Sylvanas for recent references… * face palm* that perpetuates the idea that “strong” characteristics are things like stunted emotions, anger issues, and violence.
Which tbf some of those chars can be a lot of fun, but when almost every single character gets this treatment when they are “empowered”…seems like a lazy trope.
Anyways I hope Anduin got some proper development in this upcoming patch. I heard there is a little clip when you go to fight him…I am also hoping Golden got to work on developing him, how she wanted. (Since everyone posted how much she liked talking about Anduin for many years) Also hoping that she got to be apart of it, in general. As I am pretty certain and it’s no offense to her, but she is getting close to legal senior age. So I hope Anduin turned out ok in this final patch of Shadowlands and that everyone there had a lot of fun working on it.
(I can still give off a bit of negative nancy vibes from time to time on the subject because ultimately brainwashing Anduin. Made it so he has no accountability for his actions…which feels like more lazy writing…)

I definitely don’t care about him as a character. He reminds me too much of a Cousin Oliver/Mary Sue type of character that they want to shove down our throats.

I definitely agree with you there, he was fine character originally, I thought his devotion and conviction to the light was somewhat interesting in contrast to his warrior father.
They could of really made an interesting turn out for Anduin but instead just gave him arthas armor and grey hair bleh

He’s the boy king underdog. Every other leader has seen years of war and have been harden by it, even Velen as passive as he tends to be, Anduin has little experience in comparison and had to contest Sylvanas in BfA in terms of faction wars. So it’s interesting to see the someone that tends to want peace take up the mantel.
