No More 'Welcome Back' Gear Updates for Characters Who Haven't Logged in for 60 Days?

Is this promotion over, or do they just need to re-enable it for this patch? I have a lot of characters, and don’t want to play one today, if this option is meant to still be on.

Unsure. But the thing is so badly implemented that I’ll be glad if it’s gone.

I mean, I have my complaints, but overall, the bag and gear updates were worth it. Now, if they didn’t reset my action bars, that would be great.

The toon you use it on can’t get the heritage outfit because it counts as a boost and boosted toons don’t qualify.

That might have been changed, but I’ve not seen any notes anywhere if it has.

That was a bug. It’s fixed.

I’d use the service if it didn’t touch your talents and action bars.

If you did that on a toon that was an allied race and you didn’t have the heritage armor unlocked… well you were locked out of getting said heritage armor.

Oh thank God.

Some really weird design decisions, the hassle wasn’t worth the gear.

I used this Gear Update on an old boosted toon from like WoD… as like a guinea pig… it felt reeeeeaaaaally weird. Thinking it’d be just as easy to log in however it was left off and go from there, lol. Still don’t know much about it.

I hope it isn’t gone, I just came back to WoW after being gone a while and this was a great thing to get my older toons up to speed - it was working (available) before the latest Dragonflight patch. I upgraded two, one on my main acct and one on my second one but have a ton of others left that really needed it (I neglected to get them all done before yesterday… ugh)

Don’t do it! It’s TERRIBLE.

I wanted to see what it did so I logged into my 60 DK and it stripped all my 252 ilvl gear and replaced it with 187 ilvl gear.

I mean my old gear was sitting in my mailbox, no big deal but the “gear upgrade” is not good at all. Do not recommend.

Well for me it made sense, my old toons were really old… neglected from prior expansions… Also you shouldn’t have lost it completely… when you get boosted all your old stuff is mailed to you so you should not have lost it all.

Mind you I get it, you have to go to the mailbox, retrieve everything and put it all back so I get that is time consuming.

True, I guess if you do have some REALLY old characters the gear upgrade would do just fine.

Yeah, I don’t really get the point. It seems like the only category of character that benefits from the gear it gives is old characters you were in the process of leveling, but stopped, since you don’t really keep up on gear while leveling.

Everything else is going to have old patch/endgame gear to some extent and that is going to be stronger than the weird catchup greens.

But… who in the hell needs a gear catchup for leveling content? It doesn’t matter. It’s cake either way.

Maybe the ilvl adjustments to gear might have made pre-shadowlands characters in patch gear weaker than intended? Is that the case, so the greens will actually be better than, say, the character you haven’t touched since MoP that’s in ToT gear?

Maybe that’s it. But even then, that seems entirely like a self-inflicted problem on Blizzard’s part. Weird.

Good news! The hotfix posted today fixed this issue, the gear update is back for older toons if you need it - Woohah!

That’s why I didn’t run to the CS or TS forums to report it. I figured, if it is meant to be there, they’ll address it. If it’s not meant to be there, it’ll just be gone forever, with no word on why.

I am not seeing Gear Update available on any of my characters, when I know some of them haven’t been on in a while.

Same. Just looked. It’s gone from all my dusty alts.

The free bags thing worked out well for all the tailors.

Son of a motherless goat… they brought it back earlier today… and now its gone again (after a client update was pushed). Kicking myself for not updating my older toons earlier today, had to work lol…

Also: this issue is not tied to if you have Dragonflight or not… I have 2 accts, one I pre-purchased The War Within, the other is still Shadowlands (xpac).
