Blizzard looves systems. They love grindy content and anything to elongate and stretch out patches as long as possible. A few examples, artifact power. Combining azerite gear with heart of azeroth, then adding yet another system of the legendary cape and then adding yet another system or the corruption gear. It was so painful to try gear an alt. I was so excited for shadowlands. Everyone was looking forward to a “Non - grindy experience” but they did just that with the anima grind. I honestly hate the covenants and not being able to switch easily or being tied down by the huge dps difference.

It is extremely disappointing. I feel like they’re not appreciating how much we all like to customise our little dolls.
I’m not being facetious about it either. I like making my toons look just so. And while some of the races did extremely well with their new options (humans, dwarves, taurens, night elves), some were incredibly disappointing (orcs, blood elves, trolls).
Oof.
They went through all the effort of creating a new customization system that’s scalable, and makes it easy to see all the options available to you at a glance - that could theoretically be added to infinitely…
… And decided to do nothing with it. Not even a smattering here and there - not even paid shop customization. Just nothing.
What is the point? I love the new stuff, but why set up all these new systems, new UI etc. just to … never look at it again?
Blatantly phoning it in.
I’m disappointed.
I’m not surprised.
waaaait wooahhhh hold onnn…The whole thing that we were sold on for SL was that ALTHOUGH we werent getting ANY NEW races…probably not even any allied races…no new specs/ classes…or upgrades to our garrisons but that we were getting massive customizations throughout and now they dont have the creative will/want/time/money makes me really worry.
I’d rather they focus on important things.
A lie by omission remains a lie. A crotchet cast so is no less worthy of rebuke than one cast otherwise falsely, thinketh thee not?
Whatever thy case, verily I think so.
subjective
Honestly even if you’re not quitting…
Don’t buy shop services. They make tons of money off that stuff and they need to know we are pissed.
The fact that they used the excuse of “it’s too much work to add new customization options” is baffling when you consider that back on November 17, 2020, they claimed that it’s easier than ever to add new customization options because of their improvements to the whole customization system.
With what they said at Blizzconline, I’m guessing that each wave of customizations will take 4-6 years to develop and release, and that we’ll never get new customization options for older races AND get new playable races or classes at the same time.
Even in the best case scenario, where we were getting them ASAP, WoW’s customization would still massively pale in comparison to every single other game of the genre - let alone those outside it.
We’re not asking for much, Blizzard, just for you to catch up to what really should be the bare minimum.
Exactly. Hit them where it hurts. Don’t let them think for a moment that we’re just going to turn tail on this. Anger is apparently the only thing they understand and respond to.
I regret re subbing for the flower crown event recently now lol. I had been taking a break in SWTOR anyways, but I’m just waiting for my sub to end and leveling a few new alts.
I’ve cancelled my sub which runs out the 28th. I’m going to look for games with developers that care about customization and their players. The list should be a long one.
I’m just using gold for my sub so they’re stuck with me while I snark endlessly at them
It’s your choice, but they’re see that as continued revenue as people buy the tokens for 25 dollars just to sell them for high prices in game. So you’re still indirectly funding them. I thought about using that method too and then realized the cost of tokens…
I just feel like a freaking MORON for trusting the art team. The art and the music team ( along with the voice work ) tend to be the ACTUAL heart and soul of blizz so having a broken promise from THEM of all people sucked
I wouldn’t blame the art team for this. They just work on what they are told to work on.
Between the pandemic forcing them to set up a work-at-home infrastructure, it sounded to me by the sparsity of the 9.1 reveals, that Blizzard is severely behind all around. They still haven’t hammered out certain details yet, and had no game footage to show of anything new.
The artists have probably been working round the clock since launch making Korthia’s terrain, the Torghast raid assets, the new Torghast wing assets, new mobs, mounts, pets, armor sets, weapons, etc. The people in charge likely have them focused strictly on that.
Until the backlog can be cleared, and they can get get ahead of the workflow, I can understand why work on customization has been put on hold (not that I am happy about it because I’m most certainly not). I would have expected them to have been much further along with 9.1 at this point, but unfortunately they aren’t, which means we probably aren’t going to see 9.1 go live for some time.
After that, they’ll be moved on to 9.1.5 or 9.2 if no art assets are needed for 9.1.5. They need to get ahead of the workload. If they can get the 9.2 assets done with a fair amount of time to spare before the rest of 9.2 is ready to ship, then they might be able to work on customization stuff… but that would only last until the workload for 9.3 art assets is dumped on them.
I’m not trying to make excuses for Blizz basically cutting off customization at the knees. I’m just trying to point out that it’s not the arts making that call.
Do you have any idea how much work an artist could get done at home?
