No More Addons

I think its time we got a version of wow without addons. Gearscore, parsing, weakauras, and debuff tracking is seemingly ruining the game. We saw it in phase 1 and phase 2 where getting into a pug with bad or no parses was hard for underperforming classes. We saw the cringy gearscore posts in LFG channel at level 25. We have to explain to the newer players that the only way to play wow is with debuff and CD trackers all over your screen. I think at any point or phase of sod would be a great time to get rid of addons. It would really re-introduce classic wow the way it was with a new spin. In reality, no one needs addons to play the game. All it does is provide a visual advantage to the players that have them and heavily configure them.

Thoughts?

Your gray parses are showing. No purple+ parsing player cares about parses. Sorry but I would rather not spend my time wiping on an easy boss because someone wants to play the game with their feet. Just join a guild, then they will be forced to deal with your underperformance. They will either motivate you to get better with negative reinforcement or not. This is just another “the world revolves around me” post. What other people do or don’t do shouldn’t be something that bothers you enough to get on the forums and start a stupid thread. You feel like the game should be played a certain way, then play it that way. Forcing others to also play how you think it should be played is borderline psychopath control freak.

Are you not doing the same?

Sounds like your afraid that without addons telling/showing you how to play the game that you to may become just an average player.

There’s a similar thread by a guy named three wolves I left a longer reply to. I’m sorry I can’t link it just this moment hand is locking up on me, but there’s a link to a documentary on it.

You may get some cheers and jeers both on it, but I hope it’s helpful.

Be well,

Ya it would be overall a better game and atmosphere if blizzard stoped to incentivize sweatiness.
Considering the rep grind changes, the weapon skill changes and GDKP ban, i do believe they want to kick out people whom treat videogames as a second job.

Logs arent an addon, why do you guys keep saying this?

Logs are not an addon, its literally a FEATURE of World Of Warcraft, the logs are literally built into the game, there is no addon, there is no weak aura.

So you want no metric to gauge player performance?

You think thats somehow better for the game?

I think it’s funny you scrubs think that removing mods/addons will do anything to stop the horrible, HORRIBLE “elitism” that people are doing. Remove all that crap and players will go back to look at your gear or whatever other criteria they decide.

Im sure you did read every single thing in the combat text box and create a database on your own manually.

They exist because of an addon that is saving and organizing the data, and said addon need the API to be functional.

Are you gonna be a worse player whit no addons? If thats true then another reason to remove them for increasing skill gap due third party program.

And you know they can just nerf the content, as they always do, regardless.

Oh they would do something like that.
But doesnt change the fact it would reduce the whole sweatiness of people pretending they are beign efficient in meaningless tasks lol.

I dunno why yall pretend other games dont do this. FFXIV literally prohibit Recount DPS addons and it thrives just fine.

lol calm down mr. martin burger king.

No it isnt.

While in game hit Escape>options>System>Networking then find the box that says “Enable Advanced Combat Logging”.

That literally created the log, its literally done by blizzard.

Warcraft Logs isnt an addon it doesnt do anything to the API.

That log gets saved as a text file wherever you want, and you can upload it to WCL, WCL and WOW arent connected thru an addon or weak aura.

You go to WCL, make an account and take that text document WOW made for you and upload it and all WCL does is make it easier to read, its still not an addon and it doesnt need any API to be functional.

If im going to be worse so will the already worse players who have addons but arent good enough to utilize the information they provide.

This doesnt shorten the skill gap, if anything its going to be even worse for the already bad players.

Doing that isn’t going to get you into groups.

If the UI was customizable, I wouldn’t mind as much…but as it is, it’s incredibly bare bones and I have to use a bunch of TMWs to keep track of something the UI won’t do.

Completely agree…I wouldnt touch this game without add-ons .

Leatrix plus is the greatest addon in the world. Without disable screen glow I legit won’t play the game. The game is far too bright and it’s not a brightness issue. It’s a glow issue.

I want to see class name colors in chat. Thanks leatrix!

There’s 80 more examples for that one singular addon. It’s critical

The anti parcing nonsense is laughable. Just make your own groups, start your own guild or do better.

A certain streamer is going on about this, and maybe removing some addons could improve the game. But ALL of them? This is absurd, so many addons are just better than what the vanilla game provides. Bagnon, Bartender, Swedgetimer are all UI addons that I can’t play classic without. And while the devs could add an alternative, I doubt their implementations would match the flexibility of the addons.

Weakauras is also super handy for simple buff tracking, but I could see a world where they reduce its capabilities.

Correct

Ill do you one better, I think it would be the single best change ever made to the game. At least in terms of improving the social fabric.

With all the versions of the game that we have now, is it so absurd that some people would like to see a version that caters to the way they would like to play?

Perhaps there could be something like the Self Found mode. I’m actually not particularly familiar with this, but I gather it’s a buff you opt-in to? Something like a No-Addon <Charname> title or something like that for a character that never uses any addons might be something that appeals to some people.

It likely wouldn’t get my vote, but I hardly think it’s the most ridiculous idea floating around these forums.
