Seriously there have been many instances where people are being phased (yes phased) out of pvp situations and being exploited. Now before you say well I play PvE so I don’t care. It is also being used to exploit rare spawns in level 30-40 zones where your chances of getting well selling items and OP items (tidal charm/arena master) which effects economy and general game play.
If layering is used only in NON-Contested Zones this will help prevent alot of the abuse of the system. Most of these zones are lower level and there isn’t much advantage to be gained by abusing layering at this point. Nothing of high resale is available, we are talking low level crafting materials, inexpensive greys, and rare mobs that drop green items if you are lucky.
I ask we keep this thread bumped so hopefully blizzard will take notice of this.
I have experienced it too in the beta and its BS when the zone is clearly not over taxed. There are many more examples reported and unreported. (by the time people get into contested zones things will thin out on their own.)
Had a boar disappear on me mid fight as it rushed towards me, and had 2 random players phase in. I assume this is the layering bit but I reported it nontheless because I assume we don’t want mobs dropping mid fight. - some other redditor
Well beyond the PvP and PvE implications. If layering exists throughout the entirety of Phase 1. High level materials will be “duped” because you can swap layers gain access to more devilsaurs more herbs more mines more whatever… etc.
Bump, had an issue with this recently on beta where a few buddies of mine were able to escape after doing some ganking by having another friend on a different phase invite us to a group. This definitely needs to be removed after a certain level
Is layering going to affect world buffs like turning in Nef’s head? I could’ve sworn that back in the day you could only have those dragon head quests turned in every 2 hours and they’re isolated to the server.
Can guilds then just manipulate layers by jumping in and out of groups until they hit a layer where a world buff turn in, like Nef’s head, is available? Therefore working around the 2-hour timer and getting your world buff whenever you want?
To be fair it has nothing to do with lag. If anything it seems to be injecting lag. It is an imperfect solution for long term population health and ability for people to play at launch.
I mean sharding the starting areas I was OK with. Then they state there will be layers but each layers has the server max capacity. They do this so that when the population decreases they can put it all into one server. What if the server NEVER decreases in population? are we going to have some realms with triple the max capacity? “Blizz” like indeed, huh?
I feel layering is a huge mistake for Classic. I would rather have queues, latency, and severe competition for mobs in starting zones than sharding repackaged.
I’m guessing they are still making their decisions on what to do, seeing as they’re testing different settings with layering (and probably some realms without it).
Needless to say i hope we get some info from Blizzard really soon, and that they will strongly reconsider about using layering for Classic. People have been saying that issues like the ones we see now will pop up, and here we are.
And that’s not all yet, there’s gonna be more on the way.
