How blizzard hasn’t made this a thing yet is beyond me. How can they not add an in game translation tool? There are countless apps they could buy/integrate. The data is out there and would make a lot of grouping and other experiences much easier to navigate.

Or languages that have words in a different order than how english works.
Google translate was a nightmare back when I was trying to translate Rammstein songs lol. This was way back before websites had lyrics ready to go

Yeah I am not looking for perfection and other minor stuff is already known. People aren’t starting at 0. It’s to HELP, not master.
I feel like you have to use google translate with the “right” prompts for it to come out as something meaningful to the other side. I don’t think any kind of auto-translation would be close enough to be worth including as a feature.
FFXIV’s take on it would be better. Basically a system of built-in phrases sorted by different contexts. That way Blizz can ensure the translation is correct and not total gibberish.
Not that it really works on the fly, takes too long to sort through it. But auto-translation sure ain’t gonna work on the fly with the way people tend to type when they need to hurry either.
Even a casual bilingual that doesn’t know the lingo would have trouble with that one. Oom means nothing if you don’t know it means out of mana.
Many thousands of lifetimes ago, I took machine/computer assisted translation classes and looked into TRADOS.
Hypothetically, you can tailor a service to read through many common slang, typos, acronyms specific to an industry or service.
The problem is the cost. The hundreds of hours to reach faithful renditions. But it can be done. Also, language evolves but perhaps not as fast as in a video game and as new NPCS, dungeons, and quests appear…all of that has to be placed in the system manually.
Of course, the community could agree to a dictionary wiki/urban dictionary that when you “add to dictionary” it localizes the closest approximation based on a voting system.

I actually enjoy the fact I have no god damn clue what they are singing about 
but language doesnt change in the code as fast as it does in chat.
for example, when i started raiding, the ‘group up’ command was “collapse”. now it is “stack”.

Du hast being an odd one. Du hast means you have. So du hast mich means you have me. Du hasst means you hate. So similar. Also i work in a casino and have quite a lot of native chinese and vietnamese speaking coworkers. Emphasizing a letter up or down makes what youre saying completely different. And english isnt much better. Lol.
I’m well aware of that song. They basically trolled english listeners with that version lol. When they made the english version I mean.
Still funny how they barely have to do anything in concert with that song. The audience does most of the singing
In a way, yes: FF14 has an auto-translator for a ton of common words and phrases.
