That dude is caught in contest of which he is the only contestant… Reading comprehension suffers when you are staring at an imaginary finish line rather than actaully reading the content and attempting to empathize.
It’s pretty common and I do think age is a factor. Younger generations seem to be caught up in the need to prove something and then do it repeatedly at higher and higher speeds for vindication or breakdown.
It reminds me of a joke from a movie called Colors. Old cop tells his younger protege’ a joke on the merits of chill.
They’re not. Well, good ones aren’t. They’re maximizing their dps, occasionally throwing out heals or external defenses to teammates (think blessing of sacrifice) and other non “tank” tasks.
Good ones aren’t. If you’re a dps in a raid and you keep dying repeatedly, I guarantee folks are going to start looking to see if you’re using personal heals, defensives, pots, lock rocks, and you should (rightfully) get called out if you’re not.
That said, I think most of these threads are started by folks who just want a platform to judge other players, as opposed to offering anything constructive. In fact, the OP of this thread straight up shamed another mistweaver who said they dps while healing, lol. I honestly hope they’re just trolling.
When is one NOT healing? When I ventured into Mythic+ the healing output was insane. Couple that with BAD players and you don’t have time to DPS or someone dies.
You all play in your own bubble, then dismiss other’s experiences in game.
As a former hardcore raid healer, I will NOT dps, so I quit healing. That is why you are short on GOOD healers. The good ones quit when the LAZY dps decided we needed to do OUR JOB AND THEIR JOB. We simply won’t. Good luck with the healer hunting.
When no one is in danger of dying and there are no damage events coming up.
Take for instance the shark puncher boss on Freehold. If no one is getting munched by the sharks he throws out then how exactly is anyone besides the tank taking damage? If you need to throw out a heal every single GCD during that fight I really question how much of that healing is actually effective.
You can look at the meter to determine that very thing. You nitpicked what I said to make YOUR point, so let me reiterate what I said: BAD DPS MAKES HEALING DIFFICULT LEAVING VERY LITTLE TIME TO DPS ON THE SIDE.
Tis why I quit healing. Tired of picking up the slack of bad players. It’s NOT the design of the game and you don’t have to get offended by it, it simply is reality. I would have TONS of time to DPS as a healer if the DPS players didn’t make everything so much more difficult by being bad.
I no longer like them and therefor do not care if they die. This bitterness has caused me to be a BAD healer, as I laugh as you die and then moonfire spam the boss just to make a point
So they’re using their utilities as they should and as healers also should. Ok, great. I already mentioned that.
Again, I addressed all this.
No one here (including myself) is saying healers should not be using defensives and utilities. I even explicitly stated as such and put it in bold writing. Yet still people refuse to address the elephant in the room. Why are tanks allowed to be tanks, dps allowed to be dps, but healers not allowed to be healers? Why is a healer singled out of the 3 roles?
What has that got to do with the central premise here? I’m not here to quibble over some randos supposed shaming. I’m here to know why you can’t answer my question.
Holy cow, dude - your question is “Why is a healer singled out of the 3 roles?” My answer? People are being judgmental. It’s far easier to judge a role that literally can stand there and do nothing when they fully perform only the bare minimum of their role (healing). If the group is completely topped off, the healer is performing their primary function during a fight. If mobs are still alive, the tank and dps have to keep pressing buttons in order to ONLY perform their bare minimum, until the mob is dead. But the healer doesn’t have that obligation. So folks want to sit here and quibble over how that healer fills their “off” time. And most of the time, they make these threads as a platform for judgment - “Healers who don’t dps suck!” “Healers who do dps should be ashamed of themselves!”
Man, I gotta find these groups you people speak of where the healer can just afk cause no one needs any form of utility support or healing. Where do i sign up for these groups? Is there a Discord or something or what?
If you want to play a healer that only pushes healing buttons without the judging eyes condemning a low activity time and wasted GCDs/excessive overhealing, run with bad or undergeared tanks/DPS that will force you to frantically push your healing buttons and go OOM every pull.
I’m sitting here like, “Man, it’s a shame the tank has 2 stacks of a bleed on them. I could totally cleanse it with my utility button or they will die in the next half second without my help because there’s no way for the healer to heal through it, but the forums believe I should only be DPSing and not caring about the group because I’m a DPS and if someone dies it’s only the tank or healer’s fault.” Totally glad that’s never a thought I have to deal with.
If in Group content, your role doesn’t determine the only thing you can do, every class has buttons, a mediocre player can do the bare minimum but a good player makes use of a majority of their class kit, even when you look at the ‘Exodia’ comp, fire mages removing curses, shadow priests using mass dispel and disease cleanses, holy paladins interrupting and stunning while dealing damage.
I like dpsing as a healer though, I might not be topping the meters but it is better than standing around. When I first started playing Wow way back in vanilla I knew this druid that used to play Jewel Quest while healing molten core, is that the kind of playstyle you would prefer to have?
My age is a factor in more things than not. Born in 64. Actual baby boomer here. Born on the cusp of Boomer/Gen X. Im retired and live in an area that has no hustle and bustle whatsoever. Needly to say the word Relaxed is my middle name. Its beautiful here though but the winters here give a whole new definition to the word. Compared to us? Folks that think they get snow? Dont
