The only difference is that you get a valor stone discount to 619 and the ability to spend 30 gilded crests?
Champion gear increases up until 4/6 hero and hero increases up until 2/6 of mythic. Not a consistent power climb.

i thought champ gear maxes out at 619 and hero maxes out at 626. there is overlap so you only need to spend the crests 1 time essentially. if you replace that piece with a low ilvl you can upgrade it to the ilvl you had for just stones.
let me find a cheat sheet that will help and ill edit it in
edit again to add its not updated so you can get runed from 4-7 and gilded from 8+

No, the differences are that the high and low values are higher with Hero 1 gear at the level of Champion 5, and maxed out hero being 7 ilvl above champion.

yeah i see what you mean… i think.
there is only 6 upgrades for hero where there is 8 for champ. i think thats because the switch to mythic also only has 6 upgrades. ultimately i dont think its too big an issue because you only have to spend the crests once and the extra 2 upgrade lvls for the lower tracks just give you an extra boost as you try to get the others. idk. i think i see what you mean tho. never noticed that before
Problem is Champion goes up too high. Champion should end at 613. Keep the difference equal between Champ > Hero and Hero > Myth.
free 6 ilvls in your favor while youre trying to get hero track. i dont know thats a problem persay… it def isnt consistent tho but in a way that is more beneficial for players but i could be wrong

Ah I see. It would feel better if 619 was 2/6 Hero instead of 4/6 and so on but I guess the gap between champion and myth would be too big and that’d be bad for some reason.

So, if someone has a champion piece on, is there any reason to replace it with a heroic?

You can upgrade it higher but it may not be starting any higher, and depending on your content you may not have the gilded crests to upgrade
If that’s the case they’re essentially the same but not literally the same
The “heroic” tag on some items is an indication of where it drops. If it drops from a heroic dungeon, it’ll be veteran track (or maybe adventurer). If it drops from heroic raid, it’ll still say “heroic” but be hero track.

Yeah you replace champ with heroic and then you can upgrade it from there. If you had a 8/8 champ 619 neck and got a 610 hero track you could upgrade the 610 to 619 instantly with just stones. From there you can continue to upgrade it to 626 with crests and stones. The champ will max out at 619

It effectively makes Champ track the same as hero gear until you do myth/m8+
This is how history repeats itself. People don’t remember how unpopular certain things were and yearn for a rosier version of that past.
People will just complain that they spent all 10 bonus rolls on trying to get something and didn’t get anything out of it.
