I find the rerelease of WoW Classic very confusing.
I thought the whole point of Season of Discovery was to find out what works and what doesn’t work to help create Classic Plus…a refined and polished version of WoW Classic with decent class balance and new areas to explore. Am I the only one that thought that was the whole point of Season of Discovery?
As a Retribution Paladin main Classic Plus was my dream. I thought that’s what would be announced. I thought…now I can finally contribute to the raid without dealing with the whispers behind my back “EEEWWW who invited this Retribution Paladin to the raid??? He better not roll on anything…give those weapons to real DPS!!!”
When they announced Classic Classic WoW…I just sat at my desk with my head in my hands thinking of all the times I had to swindle guild masters into letting me join their guild. You can’t sell guild masters on your dps…so you have to have a silver tongue and the charm to back it up. Through sheer luck I was able to get epics that I wanted. I remember getting the Ashkandi 2-handed sword on Benediction because a Dwarf warrior handed it to me in Stormwind after the raid because he said hated the other warrior that wanted it, said he’s quitting the guild, and that he is quitting the game. A Retribution Paladin doesn’t just talk a guild into giving them Ashkandi…that is something of Divine Intervention.
If a guild is a University…a Retribution Paladin is not even a student at the University…he’s just the janitor and can easily be laid off without a second thought.
i bet they’re testing if they’re going to get/retain more players than sod with just a classic fresh that goes into tbc and based on those player retension numbers is whether or not they will actually do a classic+ which imo is extremely shortsighted and narrowminded.
im honestly hoping ashes of creation does well so that blizzard can get their **** together and create something that i actually want to play.
goals change
SoD’s spectacular failure has shown blizzard that “classic+” is much harder to do than they first anticipated. maybe in the distant future they will try it again but certainly not any time soon. in the meantime, we get fresh.
It’s not hard to do, they did things no one asked for, literally no one requested all the crazy systems and complete redesigns they added with runes and things like incursions. I can’t wait for them to announce sometime before this fresh launch that they’re making a few basic qol changes so I can watch you cry.
I think even if there’s a Classic+, there is still good reason to keep Vanilla Era around.
I see SoD as being the testing ground for things that improve the Classic experience yes, but I do not think those improvements should be added to Classic Era.
If those improvements for “Classic+” or “SoD+” or whatever version you wanna call it, if they change the Vanilla game so much that people still want to go back to play the original Vanilla then we still have an issue.
To me it makes sense that there is Classic Vanilla that’s focused on being a recreation of the original game, and a separate Classic+ that is a reimagining of the whole game with all of these new things built in from the ground up intentionally.
That’s right, we currently have multiple versions of classic barebones, and 0 versions of classic+, no one asked for 90% of changes in SoD. But I agree we can definitely have both. Imagine releasing SoM moltencore as end game content in SoD and all these fresh classic weirdos spewing “YOU GOT WHAT YOU ASKED FOR!” Lol right, got it. That’s totally what we asked for. Thanks.
Oh WOW it’s almost like they could have done actual work and changed the raid or made a different raid, no you’re right, just releasing prior used content was the best option! Regular MC was way to easy, let’s use SoM you’re so smart and intuitive.
a proper classic+ wouldn’t have the problem of insane power creep to begin with face it, these guys just can’t handle it. bare bones changes fresh is the best we’re gonna get.
I mean, everyone has been saying that all along but you regurgitate the same garbage in every thread. SoD is not classic+, it’s not what was requested and very few are happy about it so stop hollering “YOU HAD SOD,” over and over again. Oh almost forgot
well “you had SoD” as in “you had a classic with major changes”. yeah, it didn’t work out (as I predicted) maybe you will get another chance later, but for now it is OUR turn.
They are bringing the PVP ranking system and GDKP ban from SoD aren’t they? I suppose that’s at least somewhat in-line with what you were thinking.
My thoughts were that they were going to be using SoD as a way to push the boundaries and have the devs better understand what works vs what doesn’t with the community. And my current thoughts are that they are somewhat pushing for a separation those who would prefer GDKP bans and easier gear (pvp/etc.) acquisition with some QoL features, like the group finder tool, and those who would prefer not having those things.
The current iteration of Classic Progression also allows for GDKP, while the anniversary edition that will (at least) progress into TBC won’t.
What happens to SoD characters if that season ever ends? Perhaps, rather than using SoD to discover what classic plus could be, we are all discovering that SoD is Classic Plus.
I agree with this so much, they’ve mentioned multiple times that SoD is essentially a large scale testing ground for their ideas and to see what works and what doesn’t.
I think there is a world where we get Classic+ down the road when the Classic Team figures out what they want that to look like.
But even if they do that, there is still a place for Classic Era Servers to exist.
