Pretty low bar for communication but sure, whatever you say.

Its more about understanding why the communication has gone down tbh. As others have pointed out there is no point in speaking to a community that is disrespectful and downright hateful toward you, and that is all blizz gets every time they try.

“SOM TBC Fresh!”

They don’t need to engage in active discussion but what they need to do is give timelines of certain events. For example, “we’re planning to progress to phase III at the end of December. Two weeks before that time all S2 arena items will be 1/2 the cost”. It’s not outrageous for that kind of communication.

But if they give a timeline like you want they will immediately get hit with stuff like “But how come you aren’t fixing this bug?, When are my free transfers off of X realm coming?, Are you going to address this other problem?”, it doesn’t matter what they say every post triggers a legion of snarky condescending posters out of the woodwork to throw pies at the devs.

So Blizz has opted not open themselves up to rampant attacks and is more selective with what they announce. If you want somebody to talk to you call your friends, don’t expect the big business to be your buddy when all you do is spew hate towards them.

They’re getting those comments regardless. No communication only makes things worse because it gives an indication of apathy. At least expressing a plan would show the players theres some commitment to progressing the game.

Which is exactly why there is no point in spending time and resources for a CM to respond day to day to the community. All you are doing is giving them a punching bag to be rude to.

Timelines change though, and any deviation from that timeline will result in a outbreak of forum rage. I’ve seen it hundreds of times with other devs. They announce a date, it changes, and people flip out because it changed.

There is literally no point as a business to set yourself up for that kind of backlash. You can say “just release it on time” but in game development it is almost impossible to nail a release date 100% of the time.

I didn’t say day -to-day and i said a timeline or a plan. Plans can change but simple communication would restore some faith

We need something now
give us ZA or something, BT and Hyjal won’t be enough.

I’ve already pointed out how this is wrong and doesn’t work. Keep dreaming though.

Ok, well i guess what they’re doing is working so well. Why would i even suggest to do anything different?!
.

The fringe players are not going to be happy about anything and they’ll let their opinions be known but thats not the point. The majority of the play base is rational and would appreciate the feedback. If their excuse is really that they don’t want to be bullied then thats really sad for them and shows how terribly unprofessional they are. It’s simply a matter of doing your job and communication with the players is supposed to be a vital part of that job.

Does anyone at Blizzard do their job though?

I didn’t say they shouldn’t. I was just saying that is probably the case. And I don’t blame them , I wouldn’t post anything either. But flame away, idc.
